Here’s your daily dose of goodness ☀️
Lowell has Alzheimer’s. He also has a gift for photography and a story worth hearing.
The myth? That cognitive interventions aren’t worthwhile. The reality? Press play.
Erin, one of ASPIRE’s speech-language pathologists, used two evidence-based approaches:
🔹 Response Elaboration Training (RET) — taking short, non-fluent phrases and using prompting questions to help build richer, more detailed sentences.
🔹 Reciprocal Scaffolding Treatment (RST) — allowing Lowell to teach others about his photography while Erin asks clarifying questions to help him storytell and build a narrative.
This is what creative, person-centered speech therapy looks like. This is what’s possible!
