Abstinence Simplicity Project

Abstinence Simplicity Project

Recovery in OA is built through small actions practiced consistently. The Simplicity Project for Staying Abstinent offers a practical exercise to help members stay connected to their program throughout the day.
By writing the key elements of their recovery on a small card and carrying it with them, members create a personal reminder of the Steps, tools, and spiritual principles that guide abstinence.

This simple approach can help members pause, reflect, and recommit to recovery whenever they need support. (Click the link in our comment section)

OA offers different ways to connect on the porch as th of recovery.

In Overeaters Anonymous, recovery is strengthened through connection and shared experience.
BIPOC specific-focus meetings (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) are oriented to OA members whose recovery may benefit from connecting with others who share similar experiences.
These meetings are still regular OA meetings. They follow the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, and the focus is recovery from compulsive eating—just like every meeting in the Fellowship.
To find a meeting:
Visit oa.org/find-a-meeting
Choose Advanced Options → Specific Focus → BIPOC
No matter where you begin, recovery is possible in OA.

Considering being a sponsor?

Considering being a sponsor?

Sponsoring someone new can feel intimidating—but it can also be deeply rewarding. OA’s Temporary Sponsors: Newcomers’ First Twelve Days provides members with a structured guide to help a sponsor support a newcomer or returning member as they explore the Twelve Step program, understand abstinence, and begin their recovery journey.
This program helps you:
✅ Support someone without judgment
✅ Respect their individual journey
✅ Learn what it’s like to be a regular sponsor
Your primary purpose as a sponsor is simple: carry the message of recovery through the Steps. Through short-term sponsorship, you may find yourself discovering growth into sponsosrship and hope in your own recovery too.
