Where Retired Administrators and Teachers Work Together

RETIRED TEACHERS WEEK OF APPRECIATION
OCT 16-20, 2023
Reflection Question: Do you realize how important your teacher and/or administrator job was to our children and how important your retired participation is to our community?

You taught thousands of students and influenced their lives to become good people. You were a role model to our youth, now our leaders and workers in our country. As a teacher, you were the foundation for successful adults. Many retired educators give during retirement through volunteerism and work in our schools, businesses, and churches. You were and are a force to be reckoned with. Congratulations, pat yourself on the back, and glow with the good feeling of a well-done job. Thank you for your past work, present work, volunteerism, and continued interest in our community. Job well done!

JCRTA - Volunteer Hours - JCRTA reports volunteer hours to KRTA. KRTA then compiles the total hours for all retired teachers in the state. The total number of hours helps show how much-retired teachers still give back to their communities. Click on the link below to go to the JCRTA Survey site - it will take only 1 minute of your time. SCOTT DAVENPORT - BELLARMINE UNIVERSITY - NEEDS YOUR HELP

Hi, Jefferson County Retired Teachers:

This is Scott Davenport. I am the Head Basketball Coach at Bellarmine University and I need your help.

One non-negotiable in our program is “NEVER DELAY GRATITUDE.” I want to thank each one of you for doing what all extraordinary people do. YOU have made others better!

I am asking, pleading for your help and assistance. Next Thursday, October 27th Bellarmine Basketball will host Centre College in an exhibition game in the historical Freedom Hall. Tipoff is 11:00 am.

Our theme for the game is to INSPIRE/CELEBRATE all the 1st-8th grade TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS throughout Jefferson County. ALL means public, private, everybody. Our teachers and administrators have been through 3 incredibly difficult years.

Bellarmine University believes in making others better. Schools have been offered unlimited tickets for $100 PER SCHOOL – so this isn’t a money-making event for Bellarmine. We have an entire day planned to inspire OUR young people and teachers.

NOW: This is where we NEED YOU! I am asking for retired teacher volunteers to report to Freedom Hall at 10:00 a.m. and stay until 1:30. Parking is free, and I am asking for our retired educators to be present as greeters, ushers, monitors, etc. I want everyone to feel safe, cared about, and totally motivated to have a great day. They deserve it! My goal is to recruit 100 Retired Teacher volunteers.

If you’re able and willing I would greatly appreciate you as a volunteer for the day.

Sign up by sending an email to our JCRTA Representative for the project and let him know you’ll volunteer. Before next Wednesday, he will send you all the details of the day such as exact directions, reporting time, gate admission into Freedom Hall, etc.

Volunteer by emailing: JCRTA kendraut@bellsouth.net and letting him know you’d like to volunteer - you can click on the link below and it will allow you to send the email.

Bring friends, do some monitoring, and watch a basketball game with us. Let’s work together to make a great day.

Again, I sincerely APPRECIATE YOU, Retired Teachers of Jefferson County!

Scott Davenport, Head Coach, Bellarmine University

Retired teachers needed to help with the Teach Kentucky Program. Read details below:

RETIRED TEACHER ADVOCATES FOR TEACH KENTUCKY PROGRAM

We would like to invite you to consider working as a Retired Teacher Advocate (RTA) with Teach Kentucky this coming school year (2022-23). We are a program that works to recruit nationally from elite colleges and universities and bring vivacious, dedicated, smart new teachers to Louisville where they will be enrolled in the University of Louisville (K-12), Spalding University (Special Education), or Asbury University (English as a Second Language) alternative certification MAT program and teaching in JCPS and surrounding districts.

A Retired Teacher Advocate is paired with 1-3 of our new teachers for a full year (if needed) to help provide nurturing support. Often, RTAs and their new teachers work together to set up a classroom, talk about a challenging class or student, help them to gain access to learning materials and curriculum, and enjoy meals together. We think this is a fun and unique pairing and look forward to you building a relationship with a new teacher(s) as they begin to teach in elementary, middle, or high school.

The program is designed for you to visit a new teacher(s) 2-3 times outside of school before school starts to talk about curriculum, classroom setup, etc. In addition, the RTA will observe the new teacher 2-3 times after school starts to provide feedback on lesson presentations. If they are all set up with classroom support, these relationships often morph into a dinner, coffee, or mentoring support role. We provide RTAs with a stipend of $250 per teacher to cover travel costs and your time. There will be a training session during the summer on the lesson observation framework and expectations of the position.

Please reach out to Edris Humphrey, TKY Program Director, with any questions. Edris can be reached at (606) 483-0366 or by email edris@teachkentucky.com.
