Those who live in nursing and care facilities need friends, too! Consider visiting a local nursing home and visiting with the residents, it would make their day!

IS YOUR LOVED ONE ABLE TO MANAGE THEIR MEDICATIONS AND CONDITIONS?
As different medical conditions arise as we get older, the use of medications becomes more prevalent. If your loved one is having difficulty remembering to take their medications or to take care of themselves in the manner their condition requires, it's important to talk to their doctor sooner rather than later. Medications stabilize and improve symptoms and could cause complications if not managed properly.

Are they able to complete the housework, or have someone come in to clean regularly? Home maintenance is an important part to independence that can impact overall hygiene and health.

IS YOUR LOVED ONE STILL WALKING SAFELY AND INDEPENDENTLY?
If you start seeing them having more difficulty navigating their home - standing up from the couch, maneuvering around furniture, etc. - you may want to make adjustments such as rearranging the furniture or investing in a recliner with rising capabilities.

It's important for pathways to be clear to prevent falls and injuries throughout the day. Be sure there is plenty of room in the walking paths. If your loved one struggles significantly with mobility, consider expressing your concerns to their primary care doctor.

Is your loved one typically social, but you're noticing that they seem to be withdrawing from their social circles? They may need a little more care than you're aware of. As mobility decreases, it may become more difficult for your loved one to engage in social activities. Having a care companion visit the home or moving into a facility can help alleviate the feelings of loneliness an aging adult may experience.

HAS YOUR LOVED ONE'S SLEEPING HABITS CHANGED?
Not sleeping well can effect people of all ages in negative ways, leaving ordinary daily tasks to feel impossible. This can snowball and affect their mood like we talked about yesterday.

Not sleeping well could be a sign of a medical condition or anxiety. If you have any concerns, please reach out to your loved one's primary care doctor.

HAS THEIR MOOD CHANGED DRASTICALLY RECENTLY?
If you notice your loved one experiencing difficulty with concentration, agitation or irritability, excessive fatigue, depression, headaches, digestive issues or worsening chronic pain, they could be signs of an underlying condition.

It may be beneficial to talk to their primary care doctor to rule out conditions such as dementia, insomnia, chronic pain, constipation, or even medication conflictions.
