Medical cannabis, or "ma*****na" as it is sometimes referred to, is a prescription-based product from the flowers of the Cannabis sativa L. plant that is used to ease symptoms caused by certain medical conditions. The cannabis plant has over 100 cannabinoids including THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is the primary compound in the cannabis plant and is responsible for most of the physiological effects. Allowable medical cannabis products include edibles, oils, tinctures, vapes, and raw plant material. SB 47 only allows the purchase of vapes for registered cardholders over the age of 21.
Additionally,​ SB 47 prohibits Kentuckians from consuming raw plant material by smoking. SB 47 also requires that all raw plant materials packaged in the Commonwealth be labeled as "​not intended for consumption by smoking."

Who Qualifies for Medical Ma*****na in Kentucky?
Not everyone in Kentucky is eligible for medical ma*****na. The law only permits patients with qualifying medical conditions to receive a doctor’s recommendation and legally obtain a medical ma*****na card.

Kentucky’s Qualifying Medical Conditions Include:
Cancer
Chronic pain
Epilepsy or seizure disorders
Multiple sclerosis
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Chronic nausea

Under Kentucky’s medical ma*****na law, registered patients can legally possess up to 8 ounces of ma*****na. This is significantly more than what some other states allow, giving Kentucky patients access to a sufficient amount of ma*****na for pain relief, chronic conditions, and other medical needs.
