Tropical Gold Milk
Turmeric, coconut milk, banana, ginger, cinnamon and dates.... Turmeric is a natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging agent. It shows activity against cancer and bacteria. Importantly, it thins your blood. If you have a bleeding tendency or if you are on blood thinners, you are not supposed to take turmeric.
How much Turmeric to take daily? A study found Turmeric safe up to 8000 mg daily. A high quality knee arthritis study showed 1500 mg turmeric was as effective as 1200 mg ibuprofen with similar but less gastrointestinal side effects. Another study found heating Turmeric increased its bioavailability. So, away from the tropics,in the Ville, I recommend my arthritis patients half a teaspoon (1000 mg) of ground Turmeric in 1 cup of hot drink (coffee, tea, or hot water) once or twice daily, with a shake or a pinch of black pepper (bioperine).
