At Village Crossing, resident safety is always our top priority — especially when it comes to transportation. Last week, we hosted a refresher training for all staff who drive our bus, and this time, several residents joined us to participate and observe. Their involvement made the training even more meaningful (and definitely more fun!).
We covered everything from basic vehicle pre-checks to proper loading, unloading, and securing of various mobility devices. Staff also practiced assisting residents who transfer to a seat, making sure everyone stays safe and supported. Then came the short driving test, where everyone got to put their skills to the test. And of course, no good training session is complete without a little humor. The manager may or may not have held things up by "forgetting" to buckle up right away… 😅 But the good news? It proved our biggest rule perfectly: the bus doesn’t move until everyone is buckled in. Staff — and our helpful resident participants — passed that part with flying colors!
It was a valuable, confidence-boosting training that reinforced our commitment to safety while keeping the spirit light and supportive — the Village Crossing way. 💙
