Arthritis comes from too little activity not too much. If your doctor tells you to stop doing whatever your favorite activity is, just ignore them or better yet ask them what evidence they have to support their prescription! If you don't have a favorite movement based activity, find one! A brisk walk is a beautiful thing.

“My sister was told she needed a TKR a few years back for knee OA ‘Bone on bone’. Instead I told her to get on the bike; get strong and build up gradually - she just walked to Everest base camp with her own knee. Why are patients not given evidence based approaches first?”

“Yes... high HR or HIT sessions improve your cardiac risks (assuming you're healthy). But it comes with potential downstream consequences. For most people (who hate exercise)... low HR- Zones 0-2 activity works well.. and improves ACM risk significantly. https://t.co/JLhNG8loNh”

Yet another reason to exercise! We already know it helps improve life span, prevent cancer, heart disease and cognitive decline. Now evidence it can mitigate the effects of covid 19.

Researcher Zhen Yan, PhD, is urging people to exercise based on his COVID-19 findings, which also suggest a potential treatment approach.

Thanks to advances in medical technology, every year we are living longer. But are we living better? While lifespan is increasing, healthspan is spiraling downward. Over 80% of older adults have at least one chronic disease and over 65% have at least 2. As Steven Hawking says, "it's not rocket science." We are moving too little and eating too much. The best first step is to get moving. We should get a minimum of 150 minutes of aerobic activity, and 2 days or resistance training a week. THESE ARE MINIMUMS! After the age of 45, unless we take preventive steps, we lose 2% of muscle mass a year. Studies have shown that following these minimum guidelines will dramatically reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. So as Gray Cook famously says, "first move well, then move often." In order to get or stay on the road to good movement come see me!

You might ask why, as a Chiropractor, I travelled to Chicago to take class on load management. Because it not only my job to "fix" people. My most important job is to make them resilient. Lots of great take homes from this class taught by the amazing Tim Gabbett.

Why do bad injuries happen to good people and what is the best way to avoid them. As Tim Gabbet, one of the leading sports consulting coaches of our time says, it is not the load that injures us, but the load we are not prepared for. It is when we ask our body to do something it is not trained to do that injury happens. Even going for a long walk is an athletic event and if our core or our glutes for example aren't doing their job an injury like plantar fasciitis might result. If your biomechanics (the way you move) is faulty, injury is probably going to happen. Come see us before you step up your exercise or of course if you've injured yourself. Check out my blog post

Had the amazing experience of seeing Dr. McGill in Vegas. Optimum back health is not about doing a million crunches or stretches. Research shows that it is the hyper mobile or overly muscular backs that are prone to injury. Its about learning the proper way to use your back and doing the proper maintenance. Here are some good tips from the good professor.

University of Waterloo kinesiology professor Stuart McGill is one of the world's foremost experts on spine biomechanics. Here, he discusses several pervasive...
