CALLING ALL LMTS IN LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY
To address issues of Human Trafficking involving Massage Therapy in Massage Parlors in Louisville, the Councilmembers in Jefferson County (listed below) are proposing changes that will impose stricter licensing, operational, and conduct requirements for Jefferson County massage facilities. Council members in Bowling Green recently attempted to pass the same type of ordinance unsuccessfully.
Unfortunately, as constructive as this may seem on the surface, historically it has been the legitimate Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) in the states that impose these unnecessary and burdensome extra fees through changes to existing ordinances, laws and regulations that bear the burden. The Massage Parlors find ways around these laws by staying ahead of these ordinances.
All LMTs in Jefferson need to contact your Louisville City Council members to ask them to slow this proposal down until the wording is better so as not to punish the legitimate LMTs and instead target the market for s*x trade and human trafficking. Please encourage your clients, friends, family and anyone who cares about our profession to call as well. It is crucial that LMTs in Jefferson County call their council member representatives TODAY to express your opposition to the ordinance as it stands.
There will be a meeting today, Wednesday, 11/5, at 4:00 pm at 601 W. Jefferson Street. This preliminary hearing will take place virtually and in person.

These are the Councilmembers and their respective phone numbers:
Councilman Hudson (502) 574-1123
Councilman Batson (502)5741125
Councilwoman Parker (502)574-1118
Again, call them immediately to ask for the movement on this ordinance to be slowed until better wording can be in place.

We also encourage any and all interested parties to show up in person for the City Council meeting on Thursday, 11/13, at 6:00 pm, also at 601 W. Jefferson St., next to City Hall in Louisville when the ordinance will go up for a vote. Both of these meetings are crucial to attend in person as a profession as we want to request a rework of the wording as it presently stands.
It has been suggested that signs could be made stating, “TABLE ORDINANCE FOR LMTS”. We are not speaking at this meeting but showing unity in the profession around this proposed ordinance.
PLEASE REMAIN RESPECTFUL AND ORDERLY AS WE GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS.

I want to represent our profession in the best light while advocating for ourselves. Let’s keep our messaging, both on social media and in person, on point without disrespect. Thank you!
