Talking with your partner about vulnerable and sensitive issues can become distressing. Using this scale to identify your distress level— individually and together— can be helpful.

It’s important to never go over an 70 on the scale because this can become counterproductive to the conversations, as anything over 70 can send you straight into protective mode. Once this level of distress gets reached, it’s hard to get any work done. If 70+ gets reached, take a break to regulate.
