Community Spotlight on Katie Henneman
We recently connected with her about her yoga journey:
RSY: What brought you to yoga?
KH: I started yoga in my 20s as another form of exercise and have tried a variety of styles and studios in the places I have lived. Yoga has become more of a mental & spiritual health practice for me in the last several years, though I still appreciate the physical benefits.
RSY: What benefits have you received from your yoga practice- (Physical, Mental, Emotional, Spiritual)?
KH: Yoga has helped me practice slowing down & being present, which is a difficult skill for me. When I am in class I am usually able to calm my thoughts and focus on the movement. Focusing on the breath is still a work in progress for me.
RSY: What community do you live in and why did you choose Resilient Soul Yoga as your yoga home?
KH: I live in SW Loveland and was excited to see a yoga studio open in downtown Loveland. It is a short drive for me and that's what led me to try RSY, but I stay mostly for the supportive and welcoming atmosphere and appreciate that I can show up in any mental state, any type of clothing, and fall over in any pose and I don't feel embarrassed or shamed, and often at least one person will offer a hug.
RSY: What hobbies/activities do you enjoy? How does your practice support the other activities you enjoy doing??
KH: I enjoy many forms of exercise, including hiking, walking my dogs, and cycling. I also enjoy playing the piano (I started taking lessons last year), drawing, and doing crafty things. This year I started a dog training business in addition to my full time job as an Occupational Therapist.
The instructors at RSY kindly remind us that we have to make the time for things that are important and that doesn't always mean trying to cram as much into your day as possible.
Yoga helps bring balance to my life by encouraging mental & physical flexibility, and encouraging me to slow down.
Thanks for being part of our community, Katie!!
