Seva is a Sanskrit word often translated as selfless service. It’s the practice of offering your energy, your hands and your presence, without attachment to outcome or reward.
It is love in action.
It’s remembering that we belong to something larger than ourselves.
Yesterday, I had the honor of living that prayer.
A beautiful community of yogis planted 600 baby ponderosa pines in a burn scar up in Red Feather. There was something deeply humbling about tending to a future I may never fully see. No audience. No outcome to control. Just devotion to the Earth, one tree at a time.
Seva is a core part of my Yoga Teacher Training . Each student gets to choose a volunteer opportunity as an act of selfless devotion to a cause of their choice as a lived experience of yoga beyond the mat. A remembering that our practice is not just about how we move our bodies, but how we show up in the world.
And I’m walking it with them.
Because leadership, to me, is not standing above, it’s about stepping in. Choosing to embody the teachings, not just speak them.
This is the kind of yoga that transforms.
This is the kind of practice that ripples out into our communities and our world.
Rooted in service and rising in devotion. 🌲
