Maintaining social connections is associated with better health. Make sure to check on those in your community who may have become isolated due to health changes or aging, and you will also get health benefits from those connections!

COVID is circulating at high levels right now. Wastewater testing indicates that 1 in 36 Americans are currently infected. While the current strains are not causing as many hospitalizations as earlier waves, it is still a disease that carries many risks and the potential for long term complications. Hopefully the newest vaccines will be available soon! Masking for those who choose to protect themselves and for those with a recent infection to protect others, testing, and staying home when sick are still vital steps to protect ourselves and our community.

The US Food and Drug Administration is poised to sign off as soon as next week on updated Covid-19 vaccines targeting more recently circulating strains of the virus, according to two sources familiar with the matter, as the country experiences its largest summer wave in two years.

It’s summer and people are spending lots of time in the water. Please keep safety in mind when swimming or playing around water:

- Life vests even for experienced swimmers when out on open water
- Swim lessons at any age to learn to enjoy water safely
- CPR classes - check out Fryeburg Rescue for monthly CPR classes!
- Dedicated adult supervision when kids are playing in the water
- Choose brightly colored swimwear

This post is in memory of Gaby, my niece’s brother who tragically drowned on a camping trip 4 years ago while trying to swim across a river with his friends. The world lost a bright light.
