Congratulations to our April Rehab Rockstars: Ellen Pearman and Cecilia Wyant!

Ellen Pearman is a lady of resilience! She faced pain at the beginning of her stay and has overcome her obstacles and following a short 28 day stay she is modified independent in her room with her walker. She also has been able to progress to the point of being able to participate in community outings and has a smile each session! We are so proud of you!

Cecilia Wyant first came in experiencing many difficulties with use of both sides of her body and required the use of a hoyer machine with staff. In just a short 22 day stay she has mastered the sliding board and is now completing stand pivot transfers with a walker! She also has made gains with using adaptive equipment and is getting more independent with getting herself ready and improving with her ADLs. When given the award she had tears in her eyes and it truly melted our hearts! We couldn't be happier with the progress she's made thus far and everyday she gets closer to getting home safely! Keep it up Cece!

Congratulations to Kaye James. Kaye is a resident at The Brian Center Alleghany and was honored by her home church on Sunday. This is what they had to say about her:

Sister Kaye James, a faithful lifelong member of Gospel Tabernacle COGIC received her Honorary Missionary certificate and plaque today.

She is a resident of Brian Center Nursing Home and shares her faith with her fellow residents. She is the daughter of our late Mother Elnora Tyler, and was inspired by her Mother’s example as a faithful woman of God.

The day included a dedication prayer by Pastor Moore, along with Holy Communion, songs, and presentation of the plaque and certificate. GTAB family is so proud of Missionary Kaye, and pray that God would continue to use her for his glory.

On Thursday night we held an Easter Dinner with our residents and their families. We had such a great evening making memories with our loved ones. This event was an all hands on deck and I am so proud of our team. Maintenance department picked up tables, chairs and moved things around to accommodate the crowd and will have to deliver and assist in putting it all back together. Our dietary staff for making an exceptionally delicious dinner that filled our bellies and warmed our hearts. They knocked it out of the park with the residents chosen menu. Our Nursing/CNA staff for making sure our residents looked and felt their very best. They begin early in the day and do such a great job!!!! Our Housekeeping department for always making sure the building looks great. They make us all look good!!!!The Administration for their assistance throughout the day and serving residents and families all evening as well as staying to assist in clean up . My fabulous Activity staff for assisting in decorating to create an environment that will make a lasting impression. I get a vision in my head and they work long hours to make it come to fruition. Every single employee went above and beyond. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I would also like to thank Good News Church on Main for providing tables for our gathering and Mountain Gateway Community College for providing chairs. We are so blessed to live in this community!!! The togetherness, teamwork, & dedication were exceptional but it’s the love for what we all do that makes it come together and work. Thank you to our families for trusting us with your loved ones, it is our honor. Pictures will be posted throughout the day!

Ms. Young came to the Brian Center following an extensive hospital stay and faced quite the battle to make her recovery. She first started off requiring a hoyer lift to transfer from surface to surface however with determination she went from hoyer, to sliding board, to being able to complete stand pivot transfers. She also made gains in her standing, walking and even participated in caregiver training with her family.

Each day following her therapy sessions, Ms. Young would do her devotions and saying, "His Will Be Done", never once losing hope and keeping the faith she would return home. She was able to go home right before Easter!

Congratulations Ms. Young and we hope you're doing well!
