There are so many stories just like this. But here is one of Monarchs.
Linda Miller touched so many lives. She was the oldest child in her family and according to John, who was a younger child in her neighborhood, they all listened to Linda or else! Linda went to Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1969. Sue Frye lived in the dorm room next to Linda. She said that Linda wanted to be involved in the PA. State Nursing Association. They were good friends & Linda even held a party for Sue’s engagement.
After nursing school, Linda joined the Army. She became a Lieutenant in the Nursing Corps, serving stateside during the Vietnam War, although it was reported that she rarely spoke of that time and experiences.
After discharge from the Army, Linda worked in many areas. She eventually gravitated to hospice nursing and became an administrator. Colleen DeMarko recalled that Linda made her feel welcomed from day one when she joined Grane Hospice. Colleen said, “Linda was Old School with lots of hands-on experience.” Their friendship continued after they stopped working for Grane. Colleen shared that she laughed every time Linda spoke of her grandchildren, because she got the craziest smile on her face. Colleen counts herself as lucky to have known Linda.
Becky Stein also said she had the honor of working with and learning from Linda at Grane Hospice. She said that Linda was a very knowledgeable and compassionate nurse, a fierce advocate for her patients and a wonderful person.
In her spare time, Linda liked to cook and read and travel. She was a strong and independent woman, nurse, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She provided peace and care to hundreds of patients and their families as a hospice nurse, and taught, inspired, and led many nurses in the field of hospice care, including the owner of Monarch Hospice. When life’s end came, for both Linda’s husband Clifford and herself, they were both attended by a hospice nurse trained by Linda. Linda Miller did indeed touch so many lives.
Linda was also very proud of all of her nieces and nephews who went into nursing and/or healthcare. We would like to acknowledge them at this time by having them stand.
