I have some extra openings this month and I am looking to fill a limited number of them with some specific clientele who have TMJ syndrome or who are open to inner mouth work.

This would be a craniosacral therapy session that would include inner mouth work, which can be beneficial beyond TMJ syndrome, but often these are the clients who are seeking this work.

If you fit this description, I would love provide you with more details!

I used to be insecure about the fact that I am a light to medium touch therapist. Now I embrace it and know that there are so many like me who can't tolerate deep pressure. I want to be the therapist that I need for myself.

What if massage therapy was about more than your muscles and tissues? What if it was also about your nervous system and getting you out of fight or flight?

When you receive a massage your nervous system is reminded how to relax. Your body can be reminded that it is safe and that it does not have to live in survival mode.

I prefer to perform massage without causing pain. Pain indicates to our nervous system that we need to protect ourselves. Our muscle and soft tissues may resist painful work because our pain signals are there to keep us safe.

At face value, light to medium touch work may not seem as effective, it might not even feel as effective in that moment.

However, light to medium touch work can also work deep into the tissues. It can allow the tissue to feel safe enough to open up, relax and allow the therapist in.

At the same time, when we receive that light to medium touch work, our nervous system is signaling to us that it's safe to relax. That we can just be on table and receive and not fight to survive, not fight to control anything, we can just be and allow someone to take care of us for a little while.

Maybe you think that if massage isn't painful, it's not effective, but what if it's actually the opposite? What if it can never be effective if you nervous system doesn't feel safe?

I am booked out for the remainder of the year unless someone cancels. I am full of gratitude for the support of my clients this past year and I am excited about the ways that my business has grown and changed and the ongoing education and services that I will be providing in the future.

This next year I want to expand my craniosacral therapy skills and grow into those even more. I will be looking for clients who are willing to try something new and different. I will especially be looking for clients who want inner mouth work which can support TMJ issues as well we whole body balancing.

Craniosacral therapy is fully clothed, gentle work helps restore balance to the body and assists the body in its desire to self heal.

This work will be alongside my current therapeutic massage, holistic wellness coaching, and functional medicine consulting.

If you think you may be interested in trying something new, let me know and we'll get you schedule

When I tell my clients that everything is connected I mean it. When you come in with pain in a certain location, that doesn't mean that that is what is causing you pain. Over time various dysfunctions lead to other dysfunctions. So, as this graphic points out, if your tongue isn't resting properly, that can affect your toes, which may then affect your knees and then hips and then shoulders and then neck and so on and so forth.

So sometimes, particularly in craniosacral therapy, where I'm working won't always make sense, but it may be exactly what the body needs to correct a dysfunction that is seemingly completely unrelated.

The other day a client came in with neck and headache pain, but I felt led to her ankle. I don't know if it did anything, and I felt a bit silly working there, but I also have to trust that maybe that is exactly what her body needed on that day. On the other hand, I'm still learning and may have missed the mark and that's okay too because I know I didn't cause her harm.

From birth, your tongue is actually connected to your toes through an intricate network of connective tissue known as fascia.

If your tongue is not resting correctly in your mouth due to mouth breathing, things can get out of alignment in your mouth and the rest of your body.

Tongue posture can lead to a foot imbalance and vice versa because the tongue guides all myofascial continuity structures that run from the inner arch of the foot up through the middle of the body to the tongue and jaw muscles.

When the tongue sits on top of the palate, it seals the oral cavity and holds the throat open like a tent. These muscles support the neck, keep your posture straight, help you breathe, and maintain your posture upright.

Your tongue also acts as a rudder and support system through a fascial line, and when the tongue is down, we breathe through our mouth, and the head falls forward due to lack of support, which leads to poor posture and increased energy expenditure.

For better core support and spinal, hip, and leg strength, you need to work on your tongue posture!

Try these swallowing exercises:
1.  Extend your tongue to the bumpy part on the top of your mouth right behind your teeth.
2. Then curl your tongue toward the back of your mouth as far as possible.
3. Hold for a few seconds.
4. Repeat five times.

"I don't know what to expect from this."

I hear this often with my craniosacral therapy sessions and coaching sessions.

My response is to try not to have any expectations.

Some people have profound experiences, others walk away thinking, "well that was fine but nothing amazing".

I like to tell people that even if they didn't feel anything or experience anything profound that that doesn't mean that healing didn't take place.

We don't feel the scrape on our knee healing, but soon enough it's scabbed over and new skin has grown.

This past week I've been challenged to explore my own expectations. Expectations on myself, those in my life, my business, etc and how many of them are unfair or unrealistic and how much more peaceful life can be when I set those aside. (This will be a work in progress.)

If you have been thinking about trying out a service that I offer, I would encourage you to put your expectations aside and just recieve and trust that maybe you are getting out of that session exactly what you have needed even if it doesn't feel profound.

Our Story

I am a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist, Birth Doula and Placenta Encapsulator. I am passionate about supporting women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and throughout the postpartum period. I am one of the few massage therapists in the area that specializes in this type of work and I have invested in both equipment and education to provide the best services possible.

For clients who are not pregnant and or who have no plans of getting pregnant, I offer pain free deep tissue massage. Working slowly with less pressure into the tissue and allowing the tissue to open up to me so that we can work more deeply into problem areas without pain.
