Here’s an excellent resource for clinicians looking to use somatic tools in their group or individual sessions. I just finished Dr Dayton’s training, and this workbook is so helpful. (It would also be beneficial for clients themselves.)

I long for a day when these posts are unnecessary, but here we are again. Almost 10 years later and in my home state, another school shooting. If you have children, perhaps this information can help you help them cope.

I was recently gifted this gorgeous book, and I wanted to share it with you. It’s a book of unique and powerful rituals that can be incorporated into your life upon birthing a child, losing a job, celebrating the winter solstice, and just about any other meaningful time in your life. Rituals are valuable tools for infusing purpose and mindfulness into the often hectic and chaotic days of our lives. Rituals require us to stop, get still, be aware, and hold the moment with sacredness and emotion. I hope this book finds its way into your hands before spring equinox because Schildkret’s ritual for that day is beautiful and life giving.

It’s here! Brené has a way of synthesizing and presenting data and concepts that is so palatable and relatable. I’m just a few pages in and already resonating with her lived experience of emotional hypervigilance. Treat yourself for the holidays early and get Atlas of the Heart. //

This was me. Is it you, too? // This December marks 28 years of marriage for me and my spouse, and let me be the first to say it’s been 28 years of difficult work. One of the most difficult tasks for me was dismantling the unrealistic expectations I had of him to always meet my needs and be the person I wanted him to be rather than the person he truly is. It took a lot of heartache for both of us to learn that we needed to change. I needed to change in order for my relationship to survive and thrive, and now it is and it does. // Relationship therapy is about identifying those areas of myself that need to grow and evolve and yes, change. It must begin there rather than getting a therapist to change my partner. // 📷

Students, as an instructor and a therapist, I cannot stress enough the importance of letting your professors know if you’re struggling. You can do this in small, simple ways, and has these great suggestions. The majority of faculty really do want to help you when we can in the ways we can, but we need to know that you need help. Speak up, privately but personally. You don’t need to disclose thoroughly, just the facts. Remember that help is all around you on your campus and in your community. //

This morning I had the real pleasure of presenting on one of my favorite topics to educators at Sundown ISD. Everyone is at risk of burnout, especially during a pandemic, but teachers are uniquely prone to the condition. // Take care of yourselves, Educators! We need you, and the work you do is critical. //
