Research shows that eating iron-rich foods can prevent heart diseases. Iron has a vital role in our bodies by delivering oxygen to our tissues. There will not be enough oxygen in our tissues with low iron, which makes the heart pump harder, leading to fatigue, shortness of breath, and a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Iron-rich foods are dark leafy vegetables including spinach, kale, broccoli, string beans, beef, liver, shellfish such as shrimp, clams, tuna, scallop, tofu, and wheat products.

When someone has low iron, the heart must pump harder, which can lead to fatigue, shortness of breath, and a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes.
