Meet Dr. Barr
Dr. Barr is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, dedicated to advancing care and research for children with cancer. As both a clinician and clinical researcher, Dr. Barr focuses on improving outcomes for pediatric solid tumors and neuroblastoma.
During training at the University of Chicago, Dr. Barr studied the genetic and prognostic features of neuroblastoma with Dr. Mark Applebaum and later worked with Dr. Susan Cohn and Dr. Chuan He to explore the clinical relevance of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) in neuroblastoma tumors and circulating free DNA. This research led to co–first author publications in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Clinical Cancer Research, along with additional work on treatment response published in Pediatric Blood & Cancer.
At TTUHSC, Dr. Barr continues to push the field forward, collaborating with Dr. C. Patrick Reynolds on projects using cfDNA to determine ALT status in pediatric solid tumors and leading studies through the Children’s Oncology Group Young Investigator Mentorship Program. Recent highlights include a 2024 publication on long-term outcomes in intermediate-risk neuroblastoma, co-chairing the SPOC-2012-001 trial of MM-398 in recurrent and refractory pediatric solid tumors, and serving as study chair for PEPN2415, evaluating AZD1390 with radiation in newly diagnosed high-grade gliomas.
Through innovative research and compassionate clinical care, Dr. Barr is helping shape the future of pediatric cancer treatment bringing new hope to patients and families.
