“FIRST DAY OF LEVEL 2 ❤️🖤” Ella, a nursing student in Lubbock, was excited to start Level 2 of the Traditional BSN program this month! The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing offers all four semesters, or “Levels,” of the program in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Mansfield and Odessa.

This is the story of Emmie, a four-year-old who was diagnosed with cancer. Because she and her family live in a rural area, they had to travel for hours to receive a diagnosis and then for treatment.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Mohamad Al-Rahawan, M.D., a Texas Tech Physicians pediatric hematology oncology specialist, tells us about the unique aspects of providing cancer care to children and his decision to become a pediatric oncologist.

UMC Health System and will provide comprehensive patient care and additional opportunities to participate in clinical research when the UMC TLC² Foundation Cancer Center opens its doors in Spring 2026.

Internationally recognized nursing leader Jean Watson, Ph.D., RN, presented, “Overview of Caring Science,” this month at . Dr. Watson’s presentation was part of a day-long event dedicated to advancing the science and practice of caring in health care hosted by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing and sponsored by the Dr. Ken Ketner School of Nursing Faculty Development Endowment.

Thirty second-year medical students recently toured the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin campus in Odessa. They'll soon call the Permian Basin home when they transition into their third year of medical school. All medical students complete the first two years of the Medical Doctor (M.D.) degree program at the Lubbock campus, and some will transfer to the Amarillo or Odessa campuses for the last two years and to complete a clinical specialization.

Take a look into the NFL internship opportunities that some (AT) students in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Health Professions are experiencing. There are 32 professional football teams, each taking only a couple (AT) students from programs across the country. There are seven students working with the NFL this summer—likely the most coming out of any one program.

Adrian Billings, M.D., associate academic dean for rural and community engagement with the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in the Permian Basin, tells us how the collaboration will not only improve, but also save, lives in remote areas of West Texas.

The Medication Cleanout event in Lubbock is Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Texas Tech Physicians Medical Pavilion at 3601 4th Street! Drive through to drop off unwanted medicines and sharps to dispose of them in a free, legal and environmentally responsible manner. 💊

Jemimah Omavuezi, DMS, MPAS, PA-C, always dreamed of working in health care and providing the best care to patients. Understanding the steep competition in the program, she worked even harder to obtain her admission to the Nadine and Tom Craddick Physician Assistant Studies Program in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Health Professions.

Jemimah Omavuezi, DMS, MPAS, PA-C, used her own story as inspiration to create the Omavuezi Scholarship for others.

Two TTUHSC-Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy students were among those awarded Texas Pharmacy Foundation scholarships during the 2025 Texas Pharmacy Association (TPA) Conference & Expo. Mackenzie Gunn, a “P3” third-year student, received the George Webb scholarship and Reagan Bills, a “P4” fourth-year student, received a general scholarship. Congratulations!
