The Institute for Healthcare Improvement - IHI has recognized the Garrison Institute on Aging Memory Clinic as an Age-Friendly Health System Participant. Jonathan Singer, Ph.D., director of the Garrison Institute on Aging, says it’s important that all people care about the treatment of the growing elderly population because it affects every family and community.

Age-Friendly Health Systems aim to follow an essential set of evidence-based practices; cause no harm; and align with what matters to the older adult and their family caregivers.

This month, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin was on hand when the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center celebrated its grand opening. The state-of-the-art facility, located between Odessa and Midland off Highway 191, features 200 inpatient beds. In addition to providing inpatient medical and psychiatric services, Texas Tech Physicians Psychiatry will be housed at the new site to see outpatient clients later this month.

“yay! 1st year of clinic!✔️🤍🤟🏼” Reagan, a student in the Audiology Program in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Health Professions, was excited to begin her clinical experience. In the first three years of the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program, students focus on academic coursework and obtain clinical experiences in the Speech and Hearing Clinic, local externship placements and facilities outside the Lubbock community. They then complete an advanced clinical placement in their fourth year.

May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month — an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of speech-language pathologists and audiologists in providing life-altering treatment. The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Health Professions offers several related programs in its Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences.

The four-year Medical Doctor (M.D.) program devotes three years to a dynamic, foundational blend of basic science, research and interdisciplinary clinical practice, followed by a final year of clinical specialization.
