The Clinical Experience Course in the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) provides students with hands-on, practical application of the theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom. As reflected in its title, the “experience” course allows students to move beyond textbooks and into real-world clinical practice.

Brittany Hall, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT, is a program director in this department, and she joins us to explain why this course is fundamental to the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) post-baccalaureate curriculum.

Congratulations to Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling student Christian Carrillo, who was recently selected to the NBCCF Minority Fellowship Program!

"As a Mexican-American whose parents immigrated from Mexico to give me opportunities they never had, receiving the NBCCF Minority Fellowship Program scholarship is an amazing honor," Carillo said. We had an amazing time participating in Upland Heights Elementary Career Day last Halloween! Our Molecular Pathology students helped bring science to life for kindergarten through 5th-grade students—with a perfect blend of learning and Halloween fun. 👻✨

Elementary students had the opportunity to isolate DNA from pumpkin slime, load gels, and engage in hands-on activities that sparked excitement and curiosity about the world of molecular science.

A huge thank you to our MP student volunteers who prepped pumpkin slime aliquots ahead of time and spent the afternoon guiding young learners through these activities. In the program of Molecular Pathology, we are proud to continue inspiring the next generation of scientists—one pumpkin, one pipette, and one eager young mind at a time!
