Our Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences ( ) program unlocks the fascinating world of how we talk, listen, and connect. Dive into the science behind it all and discover how to help others overcome communication challenges.

As an undergraduate student, you will learn about the normal processes of speech, hearing, and language, and also learn about a variety of communication disorders. Since hearing and speech are so closely related, you will get exposure to both areas of the profession. A graduate degree is required to practice as a speech-language pathologist or audiologist. The undergraduate program here at TTUHSC prepares students for graduate school. As an undergraduate, you won’t have to choose between speech-language pathology and audiology until you decide to pursue graduate-level work.

In the bachelor’s program, you will also complete all required coursework to become a licensed speech-language pathology assistant. https://f.mtr.cool/htiydqwbdk

The amount of sleep you need each day will change over the course of your life. Although sleep needs vary from person to person, the chart at this link shows general recommendations for different age groups: https://f.mtr.cool/scexaiwcmo

If you regularly lose sleep or choose to sleep less than needed, the sleep loss adds up. The total sleep lost is called your sleep debt. For example, if you lose 2 hours of sleep each night, you'll have a sleep debt of 14 hours after a week.

Some people nap to deal with sleepiness. Naps may give a short-term boost in alertness and performance. However, napping doesn't supply all the other benefits of nighttime sleep, so you can't really make up for lost sleep.

Some people sleep more on their days off than on workdays. They also may go to bed and wake up later on days off.

Sleeping more on days off might be a sign that you aren't getting enough sleep. Although extra sleep on days off might help you feel better, it can upset your body's sleep-wake rhythm.

After earning her Bachelor of Science in clinical laboratory science from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center TTUHSC in 1991, Eliese Teasdale dedicated more than 20 years to serving patients and communities through her work in hospitals and reference laboratories, building a meaningful career in the field of medical technology.

As a way to give back to the university that provided her a foundation for the career she loved, Teasdale recently made a $975,000 gift to the TTUHSC School of Nursing to support ongoing research focusing on detecting and treating urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women. Her gift reflects a commitment to improving the quality of health care women receive. She has a personal interest in the treatment of UTIs in women, particularly women in nursing homes, where her mother was a resident during the late stages of life.

Teasdale is excited to further this area of research, and her gift supports the TTUHSC School of Nursing and School of Health Professions in adding several research assistants and post-graduate students. Student are a priority to Teasdale and are another important reason to her to make a generous gift.

The UTI research funded by Teasdale’s gift is to be conducted by a team that includes Alyce Ashcraft, Ph.D., R.N., the School of Nursing’s associate dean for research and scholarship; Donna Owen, Ph.D., R.N., professor in the School of Nursing; Jessica Brashear, assistant program director for the Clinical Laboratory Science Program at the TTUHSC School of Health Professions; and Dimitri Pappas, Ph.D., professor and chair in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Texas Tech University (TTU).

Beyond conducting a single study of UTIs, the research team is working to create a long-term program combining analytical sensing and laboratory technologies to detect UTI presence at the point-of-care. The goal is to create more accurate and timely methods of diagnosing and treating UTIs, looking first at older women and the effect of UTIs in general as it relates to an aging population.

Eliese Teasdale recently made a $975,000 gift to the TTUHSC School of Nursing to support ongoing research focusing on detection and treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women.

Recent Master of Science in Molecular Pathology graduates Samantha Woody, Pamela Paez, and Annalisa Campos were awarded the Vicki Hopwood Best Poster award for their poster titled "Detection of Von-Hippel Lindau Syndrome (VHL) using real-time polymerase chain reaction" presented at the the Joint Annual Meeting of the Association for Genetic Technologists and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science in Sacramento, California this June. The project was mentored by Dr. Katie Bennett.

In the MP program, students apply their classroom and laboratory knowledge to design, develop, and validate laboratory tests for clinically important diseases. This group designed a test that can detect a small DNA insertion that causes Von-Hippel Lindau Syndrome. VHL syndrome results from inherited genetic variations that lead to the development of tumors and cysts in blood vessels around the body. The student group created a molecular test that can accurately detect a VHL mutation in 30 minutes.

provide and coordinate services for people with a range of behavioral health concerns. They are highly-skilled professionals who work closely with their clients in developing strategies to manage and recover from the symptoms of a variety of behavioral disorders. Counselors help their clients to return to optimal emotional functioning, cope with their environment, and live as independently as possible.

Established in 2017, the TTUHSC Clinical Mental Health Counseling ( ) program is one of the first counselor education programs in the United States to train practitioners simultaneously in clinical counseling skills and telehealth techniques.

Emphasis on telehealth is an integral component of the TTUHSC Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Telehealth, or telemedicine, is a model of distance-based health care service, and is a cutting-edge technique growing in practice and acceptance nationwide. All MSMH graduates are eligible to receive the Board Certified Telemental Health Provider (BC-THM) Credential through the National Board of Certified Counselors. The Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center offers both a second bachelor’s degree and a clinical laboratory science certificate program in an online hybrid format combining distance education with on-site laboratory sessions. Both the second degree and certificate options are accredited 12-month programs for students who have completed a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited university and who now wish to obtain a second bachelor’s degree in medical lab science or acquire additional training to work in the field of medical laboratory science.

Each program combines online lectures and instructional material with a six-day laboratory session conducted on-site at the end of each of the first two semesters. For either program, you will be required to complete a clinical preceptorship in an affiliated laboratory. Learn more: https://f.mtr.cool/hyybqlbdol
