Due to recent medical breakthroughs, burn victims can now recover more fully through advanced laser therapy. Dr. Alan Pang, burn and trauma surgeon for Texas Tech Physicians, recognizes how these new procedures greatly improve the quality of life of his patients. This same laser therapy has also been able to improve scarring that patients, in some cases, suffered up to 50 years ago.

Last week on June 20, 2025, we witnessed our residents and fellows graduate in the most well attended commencement exercise of the department in recent memory. Looking back as well brings to mind the numerous awards, accreditations, verifications and recognitions our department and staff have received.

We want to plug the upcoming West Texas Cancer Symposium on June 7th. This event is covering a wide range of disease sites and features content from several of our faculty and colleagues.

This is not intended to be a conference for cancer specialists. Instead, we've geared content towards providers and allied health professionals who encounter cancer patients but aren't necessarily cancer specialists.

We've made registration free for all trainees. There is also a cocktail/networking event following the CME event which will be a great opportunity to generate interaction between our regional providers local providers. We're proud to announce Covenant Health, in collaboration with Texas Tech Physicians, has brought kidney transplant surgery back to West Texas! Our new Kidney Transplant Program at Covenant Medical Center, led by transplant surgeon Dr. Lynsey Biondi, offers life-changing opportunities for patients with end-stage renal disease. The first surgery was performed on April 7th, and the patient is now off dialysis, has normal kidney function, and is on the road to a full recovery. This achievement marks a significant milestone in advanced medical care for our community, and we are thrilled to bring this vital service to our region.
