SAVE THE DATES!! Enjoy an evening out of the house with family or friends, and get outdoors for some fresh air fun at the Ludington State Park. This is truly a Hallmark Movie background with the paths lit by vintage lanterns and the moon/stars if available! Add this to your winter events to attend.

Winter nears and could bring with it weather fit for snowshoeing. Friends of Ludington State Park and Ludington State Park again this winter will offer four lantern-lit snowshoe/x-ski/hike events. The dates for the 2023 lantern-lit events are Saturdays Jan 7 and 21 and Feb. 4 and 18. The events run from 6 to 8 p.m.
A roughly one-mile long trail from the warming shelter along the walking trail and back along the Big Sable River is lit by lanterns. Sixty pairs of snowshoes are available to use at no cost for the hikes on a first-come, first-served basis.
Warming fires are at the warming shelter and at the amphitheater where hot chocolate and marshmallows for roasting also are available. The family-friendly, popular events are free, though a Michigan Recreation Passport is required on vehicles entering the park. Check back for dates for book walks, too.
Interpreter Alan Wernette also offers guided snowshoe hikes/walks (depending on snow cover) at 1 p.m. on Saturdays Jan 7 through Feb18th and at 6 p.m. Jan 14, 28 and Feb. 11. The loaner snowshoes are available for these hikes, too.
