Have you met Helena, one of the owners of Touched by an Angel?

Touched By An Angel was founded in 2013 by Helena Stephens after spending 20 plus years providing hands on care in nursing facilities and for home health care agencies. Born in Portugal, Helena came to the U.S. at the age of 17 and started working as a CNA two years later. Over the years Helena grew in her role as a CNA and had the ability to train other aides. She also had the opportunity to work in different capacities in the healthcare field by becoming an Assistant Activities Director and worked in Medical Records at local nursing facilities. However, her first love was always providing direct care to elders.

Helena spent her youth watching and helping her mother care for her grandmother, whom for 4 years resided with them until her death. Coming from a culture that believes that family should care for their elders, Helena always wanted her clients to have the same care that her grandmother had. So, she returned to being a CNA and worked for a home health care agency. There her first client was Polly and for 7 years Helena cared for Polly 7 days a week. Over the years, the relationship grew from just being caregiver and client, to Polly becoming a grandmother figure in Helena’s life. Polly wanted others to experience the kind of quality that she received and called Helena her angel on earth. She encouraged Helena to pursue her dream of opening her own agency.

Helena opened her own agency in May of 2013, and in tribute to Polly, named it Touched By An Angel. Helena recognizes the importance of combining the right caregiver with the client. Touched By An Angel is committed to their client’s wellbeing, both physically and emotionally. Most importantly, she believes that each person is a unique individual and she and her staff pride themselves on caring for these individuals as if they were part of their own family.

Today is a bittersweet day at Touched by An Angel as we wish our longtime nurse Bonnie a happy retirement!
