✨ 4 SIMPLE THINGS TO EASE AND RELAX DURING YOUR BIRTH ✨

We love these techniques bc they are 1.) accesible to everyone 2.) use natural shifts in body posture and positions to send signals to the body & mind to relax 3.) no one else has to touch the birther so even during times in birth when someone does not want physical touch, they can still use these relaxation techniques on themselves and 4.) they are all simple and free of charge!

Breastfeeding offers a powerful line of defense against all forms of child malnutrition. It acts as a first vaccine for šŸ‘¶šŸ½, protecting them against many common childhood illnesses while reducing šŸ‘©šŸ½ā€™s future risk of diabetes, obesity and some forms of cancer.

I love being a part of such a sacred time in a woman’s journey. ā™„ļø

It’s been 9 months Mama,
And finally we are now here.
Together, skin to skin,
The comfort of your heart beat still so near.

It’s been a long road Mama,
You’ve done so much for me.
Sacrificing your body, your sleep, your everything,
All to grow me safely in your belly.

It’s not the end though Mama,
We’re only just at the start.
I still need every part of you,
In the light of days and nights of dark.

It’s all so big out here Mama,
And I’m not sure of anything yet.
I love that you’re still close to me,
You’re my personalised safety net.

It’s relentless what you’re doing Mama,
I’m small and I need so much.
But mostly I need your love and safety,
You breath, your skin, your touch.

It’s a lot for me right now Mama,
The outside world is all so new.
The smells, the faces, the sounds,
But my favourite thing of all is you.

It’s a new reflection, I know Mama,
To you but not to me.
Remember I didn’t know you of before,
But you of now is perfect, it’s all I see.

It’s not easy sometimes Mama,
I know it can be hard on you.
The feeding, the healing, the rawness,
The sheer overwhelm of all the new.

It’s ok if you cry too Mama,
The tears are not just mine.
There’s a lot going on for us both, at once,
It’s ok to shed them at the same time.

It will all go too quickly though Mama,
I won’t always be this small.
I’ll need you less day by day,
And time, while slow, won’t actually stall.

It’s you that got me here Mama,
Don’t forget how capable you are.
You may feel weak and unsteady right now,
But truly Mama, you’ve come so far.

It’s one day at a time ok Mama?
Let’s figure it out together.
We’ve been a team for months already,
We both know we can handle whatever.

It’s such a special time now Mama,
This second chapter in the story of us.
And nothing feels more right to me,
Than giving you my life, for now, in trust.

Practicing skills with guidance and support from your peers makes them "click." šŸ‘Œ

You learn things that you didn't know were possible, and you get to share in that learning and deepen it by reflecting with other . šŸ’™

This quote from a recent Workshop participant speaks to that. šŸ™

"The mechanics of breech birth clicked during the practicum. I’ve done other breech workshops and mentally knew the steps, but this format helped it click better taking the mental knowledge into practice and understanding why the maneuvers help and work the way they do.

I’d never had the chance to practice twin birth, so that was great. Previously I didn’t know that manually turning/maneuvering an OP was possible. "

🐨The Koala hold 🐨

This is a position I often talk to new mums about, it can often help get a big, deep latch, and the mother has the benefit of really seeing what the baby is doing as they attach.

It can take a bit of practice as one hand and arm has to support the baby; her hand supporting their head and neck behind the ears, well clear of the back of the head. The other hand is free to support or shape the breast to help the baby latch.

The mother may need to sit forward on the edge of the chair or bed so she can lower her leg to enable her baby to straddle it.

The baby’s body stays beautifully upright and close to the mother’s meaning they feel secure enough to feed; gaps are minimised to really help the baby’s chin get in nice and close to the breast.

It can be beautifully combined with using the flipple or exaggerated latch if you’re working with a high palate or suspected tongue tie.

Once the baby is latched and both are comfy, mum can relax the ā€˜boob hand’ as this mum is so expertly demonstrating.

It’s also possible for the mum to recline back while the baby continues to feed so the deep latch is maintained but the mother is supported by the chair or bed.

(a huge thank you to for letting me share this and her other stunning nursing shots, and to .Eldridge photography for taking it)

The last week of April each year is national
infertility awareness week, which is such a great thing to become more knowledgeable about if it hasn’t impacted you personally. Infertility affects 1 in 8 people, so everyone is bound to know someone who has been affected by the pain of infertility.

As I have shared openly, we dealt with infertility for years, and those were some painful, raw years in our lives. It was hard to not ā€œfeelā€ like our family was complete like so many clients shared they felt over the years when they were done having babies, but also trying to trust God and His plan… and knowing that God is good, but what if His plan meant we would never have the big family we had envisioned when we first were married?

Five years ago we made the decision that our family was not complete and felt led to an amazing Reproductive Endocrinologist to try IVF to get us our longed for baby… and she followed a year later!

And now as I sit here 20 weeks pregnant with the fifth biological baby (and tenth pregnancy), I can’t help but feel like Sarah in the book of Genesis…. desiring a baby so strongly, and being given the precious gift in ā€œold ageā€ which seems like such a funny irony to struggle with recurrent pregnancy loss and secondary infertility in my twenties and early thirties, to then be able to conceive and birth babies as if nothing was ever an issue at ā€œadvanced maternal ageā€ by medical standards.

To those in the trenches of the journey to parenthood and getting that precious baby in your arms, you aren’t alone. I see you. I have felt what you feel. I get how painful and unknown the journey is.

I DID IT!!! šŸ’Ŗ šŸ’•

I manifested this moment for so long!

despite being told Ill never birth naturally after Romans horrific birth ending in emergency c section because " your hips are to small" And next time you will have to have another c sectionšŸ˜“
this time I new it had to be different!!
Once a C section always a C section W O N G.
I did not want to have massive abdominal surgery for no medical reason.
I new my body could do this!!! Our body's are made for this.

I found myself the most amazing student midwife who strongly supported and empowered me every step of the way.
I was going to have the birth I wanted not what the hospital wanted for me. And that's just what we did!
With the help & education of .sacred.space
I totally smashed my VBAC!
(vaginal birth after cesarean)
24 hrs of labour drug free most of it spent at home with jake getting through it togetheršŸ’‘

It was such a healing positive birth I could relive it a milion times over. There is no risk free option and I trusted my body and made the right choices for my body and our babyšŸ’™

šŸ–•to the DR who told me I couldn't do it, here I am on the other side feeling bloody amazing 😁
