God Sees What Others Miss
1 Samuel 16:11–13 (NIV)
"The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
Hi friend,
Before David was a king, a warrior, or a psalm writer, he was a shepherd. When the prophet Samuel came to anoint the next king, David wasn’t even invited to the lineup. His father assumed the important moment didn’t involve him. He was out in the field doing ordinary work.
But that’s exactly where God saw him.
This moment reminds us of something we often forget: God does some of His most important work in seasons that feel small, unnoticed, or routine. David wasn’t fighting giants yet. He wasn’t leading armies. He was taking care of sheep. Yet it was in those quiet, hidden years that his character was being formed.
Most of us spend more time in the field than on the stage. We work jobs that feel ordinary. We serve in roles that don’t get recognition. We pray prayers that seem to go unanswered. It’s easy to think nothing important is happening.
But God sees what others overlook.
David’s faithfulness in the field prepared him for the throne. The same is true for us. The way we live in small moments shapes what God can trust us with later. Integrity, patience, humility, and consistency are built when nobody is watching.
If you feel unnoticed right now, don’t assume you’re forgotten. You may be in a season of preparation.
God knows where you are. And He knows exactly when to call your name.
With you in Christ,
Ryan
