Most people picture sleep apnea as a loud snorer... usually a man. But in women, the symptoms often look completely different: persistent fatigue, morning headaches, mood changes, frequent nighttime waking, or anxiety that just won't quit.

That means women are frequently undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years.

Hormonal shifts during pregnancy and menopause can also affect airway stability during sleep, making women more vulnerable at certain life stages.

If you're waking up exhausted no matter how much sleep you get, it's worth talking to a specialist.

Thyroid nodules are common, and most are non-cancerous. When they grow large enough to cause pressure in the neck, trouble swallowing, or a visible lump, surgery has traditionally been the answer. There is now another option at South Carolina ENT.
Radiofrequency Ablation, or RFA, is a non-surgical procedure that uses a small needle and ultrasound guidance to gently shrink benign thyroid nodules. Studies have shown nodules can shrink by up to 80 percent, often eliminating the need for surgery altogether. Dr. Walsh Thomas is the first physician in the Midlands of South Carolina to offer this procedure.

If you are exploring alternatives to CPAP, the Inspire implant may be an option. In this video, Dr. Puchalski explains exactly what happens during your first evaluation.

Patients considering Inspire must meet specific criteria, including BMI ranges, appropriate anatomy, and a sleep study demonstrating primarily obstructive apneas.

During your visit, our team measures your airway, performs an endoscopic evaluation, and confirms whether the obstruction pattern matches what Inspire is designed to treat.

Many patients ask why their allergy symptoms seem to change from year to year.

Pollen counts vary depending on rainfall, temperature, and environmental factors. Additionally, repeated exposure to allergens can intensify the immune response over time.

New sensitivities can also develop in adulthood.

If this season feels more intense than previous years, allergy testing can clarify what has changed and guide more targeted treatment options.

Managing allergies is not a one size fits all approach. Adjusting your care plan based on updated testing may significantly improve symptom control.
