I never knew about this! Let us spread the word about this wonderful college program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder 💙🦋
Did you know that Marshall University offers a specialized College Program for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?
Established in 2002 through the West Virginia Autism Training Center, this program was one of the first campus-based programs in the U.S. specifically designed to support autistic college students.
The program helps students not just get into college — but succeed while they’re there.
Students receive individualized support in areas such as:
✔ Academic planning and study skills
✔ Social and communication development
✔ Independent living skills
✔ Career preparation and job placement
Participants work on personalized goals with trained staff and mentors, helping them navigate everything from managing coursework to building friendships and preparing for employment after graduation.
There is even a Summer Transition Program that allows high school seniors and incoming students with autism to experience college life before starting full time — including taking a college course and practicing independence on campus.
Programs like this remind us that autistic students belong in higher education — and with the right supports, they thrive.
The goal isn’t to change who someone is.
The goal is to build environments where neurodiversity can succeed. ❤️
