Today I checked my ESPN app to check the scores and the very first thing was the Breaking news of the Dallas Cowboys player who died from a self-inflicted gsw. Putting football aside, as an Eagles fan, this brings up a much more important issue than football. Humanity is far more important than favorite sports teams.
Just days ago this young man was celebrating in the endzone, with his teammates, on a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and now, merely a few days later, his family is planning his funeral.
Mental Health is not something new, it is finally getting it’s public recognition it deserves. Su***de is constantly something that fills our “feeds” and it is not exclusive to anyone. Other forms of self-harm are on the rise. We see celebrities, veterans, youth, and everyone else struggling with it.
Mental Health is not something to be taken lightly. And it is not something that we can sweep under the rug. Many people go through their day to day lives surrounded by people but still feeling absolutely alone.
Let this be a reminder to just simply check on each other. You never know how a message, call, and/or visit can bring someone back from stepping into a very dark mental hole.
