If you were seen in our office this year and hearing aids were recommended but you've been on the fence about the decision, you should know that many insurance plans are reportedly changing coverage for hearing aids in the new year. These changes could limit where you can access hearing care or terminate your coverage for hearing aids at all, thus making the financial decision even harder! October was also Cyber Security Month! With so much happening online these days, it can be so hard to keep up with current cyber security threats and how to work around them. We want to keep all our patients safe any way we can, so hopefully you learn something new from these graphics!

Dr. Roller’s cheeseburger-inspired pumpkin won our October contest with 40 votes total!

Second place went to her student, Natalie, with her spooky green melting design, third went to Ilea with her pumpkin king design, fourth went to Dr. Courtney with her sparkling pink breast cancer awareness design, and finally was Malina’s sweet green ghoul design.

Did you know...

People with Down Syndrome (adults and children alike) are more likely to experience hearing loss due to anatomy differences common in Down Syndrome. This loss is more often conductive in nature, stemming from persistent fluid or recurrent middle ear infections because the eustachian tubes do not drain properly. As a result, audiology and ENT should be included on the healthcare team for these individuals as they will likely need hearing aids or ear tubes for management. Also, physical differences may also lead to wax buildup in the ear canals more often or more quickly than is typical, needing removal by a trained professional.

Did you know...

October is National Physical Therapy Month and audiologists often work closely with PTs for management of a myriad of balance/vestibular issues. When you are experiencing dizziness or balance issues, you should ALWAYS consult with your audiologist to evaluate your hearing status as part of your comprehensive vestibular workup.
Also, some causes of balance issues can be treated in our office, depending on the root cause of your trouble. Remember, your ears do more than just listen! 💫 👂

Last night, we had the privilege of attending another of our favorite events at Mercy Ridge, their annual health fair! Did you know...

Many patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer develop hearing loss and significant tinnitus as a result of those medications that are saving their life. It is often one of the overlooked side effects or something patients don't retain while developing a plan with their oncologists. It is recommended EVERY patient with cancer have a hearing test prior to their first treatment, as well as with any perceived changes during treatment and post-treatment.

Depending on the type of chemotherapy you will receive, there are also options for additional medications during your treatments that can help protect your ears from the effects of these meds. If you or a family member find yourself on this journey, give us a call to have a pre-treatment baseline on record so we can help mitigate the changes as you fight!
