I am a urological surgeon who has been practicing urology in Tampa, Florida since 1983. Raised in Massachusetts, I was graduated summa cm laude from Tufts College of Liberal Arts with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biology in 1974, and received my Doctor of Medicine degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City in 1978. In 1983, I completed a 5-y

ear urology residency (2 years general surgery, 3 years urology) at the University of South Florida Affiliated Hospitals, whereupon I went into the private practice of urology in Tampa. I has been certified by the American Board of Urology since 1985, successfully completing the mandatory every-ten-year re-certification process in 1992 and 2003. My primary hospital affiliation has been with University Community Hospital in Tampa, where I was Chief of the Division of Surgical Subspecialties for 5 years. Within a broad practice of urological surgery, I has been performing vasectomies since 1983 and vasectomy reversals since 1984. I has been on the clinical faculty of the University of South Florida College of Medicine and is currently Courtesy Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Gainesville. In 1999, after 16 years of private practice devoted to all aspects of adult urology, I stopped accepting new General Urology patients so that he could devote more time to vasectomy and vasectomy reversal. However, I has continued through the years (now only one-half day per week) to tend to the needs of his established patients who require long-term follow-up for conditions such as prostate cancer, recurrent bladder cancers, erectile dysfunction, and various voiding disorders. At my Tampa office, I provide hands-on training for physicians (urologists, general surgeons, and family doctors) who wish to learn no-needle no-scalpel vasectomy and offer it in their own practices. I am the contracted vasectomy services provider for 34 of Florida's 67 County Health Departments. In 1989, I became one of the first urologists to perform vasectomy reversals in the office environment without compromising success rates, thereby eliminating facility and anesthesia fees and making vasectomy reversal affordable for couples for whom it may not have been an option. Since I established in 1998, men have come from all over the United States (including Alaska) and from several foreign countries to my Tampa office for successful vasectomy reversals at fees which were less than those available in their home towns and cities. I perform vasectomies (1) in my Tampa office, (2) at a number of county health departments in Florida (Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee, Hardee and Charlotte), (3) at Planned Parenthood facilities in Polk, Sarasota, Lee, Collier, Orange, Alachua and Duval Counties, and (4) at certain primary care clinics in Florida.

A Lucky Guy

I’m Dr. Doug Stein. I’m a board certified urologist who practiced all aspects of adult general urology (including vasectomy) in Tampa Florida from 1983 until the year 2000 when I stopped seeing new general urology patients and focused entirely on vasectomy and vasectomy reversal. I have performed over 44,000 vasectomies and 1750 vasectomy reversals. In 2016, I was joined by Dr. John Curington, a long-time contibutor to the international work of No-Scalpel Vasectomy International (www.NSVI.org) and World Vasectomy Day (www.WVD.org). During the years prior to 2016, I was performing about 2500 vasectomies per year. Since then, I have been more focused on performing reversals, on training other healthcare practitioners to perform vasectomy, and on international work through NSVI and WVD. So now I am performing about half as many vasectomies per year as I was before I acquired an associate. Dr. Curington has been such an asset to the practice, performing most of the vasectomies, and consistently lauded by good reviews in FB, in Google, and in our own website, viewable by clicking the stars in the boxes that pop up when one clicks the locations in the Florida map on the home page of www.VASWEB.com. So I consider myself a very lucky guy.
