new offering at

come meet other mamas, create community, and learn about holistic health

this month we will be exploring the summer issue of magazine which covers many topics.

these specific discussion points of groups are always open to wherever the attendees want to explore, however, the 2 articles I have chosen to discuss this month are communicating menstruation with the men in our lives + how trauma impacts our physiology.

I am excited to see you! Check out the FLC FB events for more info.

Infant Craniosacral Protocols & Techniques with Lori Hendrickson, CST hosted by Dr Sarah Bober held at Community Roots Collective, Tampa Florida - June 6, 2021.** https://lorihendrickson.regfox.com/infant-cst-protocols

In this workshop you will learn a series of connective tissue and fascial stretches that significantly facilitate cranial sacral therapy protocols. These stretches address plagiocephaly, torticollis, acid reflux, an inability to form a good latch while breast-feeding , tongue lip and Buccal tie restrictions and a myriad of other pathologies that can arise with any of these disorders. You will also be introduced to the cranial sacral protocol and will leave with a sound understanding of the cranial sacral system and its functions. Lori’s workshops are very interactive and collaborative. She encourages students to ask questions and to share case histories throughout the afternoon. The culture of the environment is open and welcoming which cultivates an atmosphere of sharing and learning from all who attend.

There will be one certificate of completion available at the end of this workshop.
- Babies in arms are always welcome! Contact Hannah Day if you plan to bring your baby as a model.
- Bing a lunch and/or snacks to enjoy throughout the afternoon.
- Bring a medium to large sized soft-bodied baby-doll to practice with.
- Handouts are available ahead of time for you to print out for class and to keep as a reference.
- Upon completion of this live workshop, you will also receive lifetime access to Lori’s online workshop video (5+ hours of recorded footage) for additional educational support, along with your certificate of completion via email.

Are you overwhelmed by all of the shoe options out there? I was for sure, so I created this list of words that you can search for to be empowered in your footwear choices. It's not about me telling you what to buy/use, it's about you being informed and understanding why we are doing this and how to find the answers for yourself.

Have you tried barefoot shoes? How did it go?

what does head space have to do with birth? nearly everything.

if you don't feel fully supported, safe, and empowered, then your body will resist going into labor. This goes equally for your partner. It's important for everyone in the birth family to be ready to take this step in expanding your family.

first things first:
your estimated due date is an estimation. This calculation is made off of a 28 day cycle with ovulation on the 14th day. Many cycles vary between 21 and 35 days.

always talk to your midwife or doctor before doing any labor induction methods, even if they are natural.

mantras are statements you say to yourself, preferably out loud, that you repeat until you feel it sounds true for you. they can help you cultivate a sense of peace, readiness, excitement, and surrender, around birth.

typically, i do not encourage methods to jumpstart labor, but I know that many moms are anxious of a hospital birth if they go beyond 42 weeks, and so I have assembled these mantras for you.

note: they are not my own. most are from pinterest.r

The government does not care about your health.

Phthalates are endocrine-disrupting chemicals used to make #3 plastic (PVC or vinyl) flexible. PVC leaches phthalates when it’s heated or worn down. Phthalates are found in personal-care products and detergents, often labeled as “fragrance.” Phthalate exposure has been linked to early puberty in girls, a risk factor for later breast cancer.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disrupter found in reusable polycarbonate ( #7 plastic) food and beverage containers (including baby bottles); the lining of food and beverage cans; in PVC ( #3 plastic); and on receipts and money. Research links BPA to breast cancer, miscarriage, erectile dysfunction and heart disease.

Used as a disinfectant in municipal water systems, chlorine is toxic, even at low concentrations. Studies link chlorine exposure through ingestion and showering with an increased risk of heart disease, allergic reactions and miscarriages, as well as increased rates of bladder, colon and re**al cancers. Chlorine irritates the eyes, nose and throat.

Radon is a natural, odorless radioactive gas that can seep into homes from the ground. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer (and the leading cause for nonsmokers) and can be detected with a test kit.

PFCs (perfluorochemicals) are persistent organic pollutants used on stain-resistant clothing and upholstery, cooking pans, fast-food wrappers, and inside pet food and microwave popcorn bags. Teflon, Scotchgard, Stainmaster and Gore-Tex are all PFCs. They have been associated with low-weight babies, abnormal thyroid hormone levels, liver inflammation and reduced immune function.

If it kills insects or weeds, it likely isn’t good for human health, either. Many common pesticides are known carcinogens. One chemical in many pesticides, dichlorvos, is associated with mammary tumors in rats or mice. Another, glyphosate, has been linked to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Formaldehyde is a flammable, pungent compound found in building materials, pressed-wood products, melamine (hard plastic) dishes and cigarette smoke. It can irritate the eyes, throat and mucus membranes, and cause headaches and nausea.

Let’s normalize babies waking through the night. 👏🏼

The startle (Moro) reflex is a primitive reflex that babies are born with.

Reflexes are automatic movements that happen without conscious thought.

Reflexes help us to survive, search for food (rooting and sucking reflex), protection (moro), avoid danger (grasping from falling), to walk (stepping reflex).

Primitive reflexes are the neurological building blocks of learned skills and motor development, coordination skills, cognitive skills and behavior patterns.

Integrated reflexes are important for developing motor control.

A child needs motor control to maintain proper posture at a desk in school, ride a bike, read a book, cross midline, write, and get dressed. A child with integrated reflexes has normal movement patterns to complete these functional tasks at home and at school.

A child with unintegrated reflexes could benefit from skilled reflex integration therapy which will essentially train a child’s brain by establishing an efficient movement pattern that supports higher level motor skills or cognitive tasks.

Note: this is not an anti swaddle post. It’s a pro- listen to your baby and do what they need post.

✨ the first adjustment ✨

what we check for: misalignments in the spine and pelvis caused by excessive tension in the nervous system which can lead to problems such as

🌟 colic
🌟 constipation
🌟 difficulty breastfeeding
🌟 poor sleep
🌟 colic
🌟 abnormal head shape
🌟 head tilt to one side
🌟 favoring one breast during feeding

there is absolutely nooooo popping twisting or cracking. The adjustments are extremely gentle + specific and use the same pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato.

Your body may be battered and bruised. Dysfunctional + discoordinated, but you are not broken.

Aside from limitations of matter, where medicine is incredibly effective 🙌🏻, the body can and will heal itself provided you give it what it needs.

What does it need?

🧠 proper brain 🔁 body communication

⬇️ emotional stress + intentional self-care to process the emotions that do arise.

⬇️ chemical stressors like processed foods, environmental toxins, and clean, filtered water.

⬇️ physical stressors - repetitive movements that you don’t really think about. Good biomechanics. Improved work ergonomics. Better posture.

What’s getting in your way? Sure chiropractic can help to release stored tension + stress, but if you don’t modify your lifestyle, the tension will continue to build up!

HOW CAN CHIRO HELP WITH INFERTILITY + PREGNANCY!?

It is such an honor + a privilege to serve mamas in their seasons of waiting + their seasons of creating humans.

👉🏼infertility
when the body is in a state of chronic stress, the reproductive process is not prioritized. This is bc if your body thinks you are being chased by a lion through the forest, it is not good timing to create a new life.

chiro care during this season helps to ensure that there is proper nerve supply between the brain --> spinal cord --> and spinal nerves that control the reproductive system + pelvic floor muscles

it is also focused on balancing the autonomic nervous system to get the body out of fight or flight and into a rest, heal, repair, and reproduce state!

👉🏼 pregnancy
pregnancy adjusting helps to improve
POWER - nerve supply to reproductive system + pelvic floor muscles
PASSAGE - biomechanics and making sure the joints of the low back and pelvis are working optimally to allow the pelvis to open fully during labor and delivery.
PASSENGER - while we do not adjust the baby or turn breech babies, a side effect of working with pregnant moms is decreasing intrauterine constraint, which can creating more room for baby.

questions about either of these?

What's the deal with solid foods? when to start? Why 6 months?

I believe in listening to your body + doing things the way nature intended. so let's listen to what mother nature has to say about starting solids!

1. The tongue thrust reflex is present at birth (starts in utero) and doesn't integrate (disappear) until 4-6 months. you can check if your baby has this by trying to put a spoon in their mouth and seeing if they push it away with their tongue. This is a primitive reflex that is meant to keep the baby safe + not allow things other than liquid (breastmilk/formula) to be swallowed.

2. Babies are not able to sit independently until roughly 6 months. This is an important threshold for eating solids because chewing skills and more complex digestive abilities are ready at about the same time. They also need to be able to coordinate swallowing and breathing which is hard to do when you are laying down. They should also be able to grasp the food and feed it to themselves which requires core stability so they don't topple over.

Isn't nature incredible!!! Now once your child is ready.. what do you start with!? Purees or baby led weaning?! The choice is up to you! Tell me in the comments what food your babe(s) started with and why!
