As a child counselor and someone who specializes in the dynamics between parents and their children, I found the series Eric to be brilliant and thought-provoking. The premise is that a little boy goes missing. The setting is the 1980s. This video perfectly demonstrates coregulation: when a parent keeps his or her own nervous system so calm and regulated that the dysregulated child is able to temporarily “borrow” the parent’s calm nervous system. Children eventually learn how to regulate their own emotions through this experience of coregulation.
