They may look to you like black or gray specks, strings, or cobwebs. They may drift about when you move your eyes. Floaters appear to dart away when you try to look at them directly.

Most eye floaters are caused by age-related changes that occur as the jelly-like substance (vitreous) inside your eyes liquifies and contracts. Scattered clumps within the vitreous and can cast tiny shadows on your retina. The shadows you see are called floaters.

If you notice a sudden increase in eye floaters, contact an eye specialist immediately — especially if you also see light flashes or lose parts of your vision. These can be symptoms of an emergency that requires prompt attention.

It is with a heavy heart that the Teran/Decker family has made the difficult decision to sell our Bayside office and downsize our family business to our Lynbrook location. Over the past several decades, it has been our honor to service the Bayside community. Many of our patients have become a part of our extended family and we will always be thankful for your loyal patronage over the past 38 years.
