So very true. A positive attitude about growing older AND maintaining strong and meaningful social connections!
Did you know that having a positive outlook about aging can actually add years to your life? “Yale researcher Dr. Becca Levy followed hundreds of residents older than 50 in a small Ohio town. The study found that median survival was 7.5 years longer for those with the most positive beliefs about aging, compared with those having the most negative attitudes,” cites Dan Buettner explorer, National Geographic Fellow, and founder of Blue Zones. According to Levy’s research, looking forward to getting old also reduces the chances of heart disease, helps maintain strength and balance, reduces the chances of dementia, and keeps your memory sharp.
