“Once a C-section, always a C-section” is a myth.

VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) is a safe and viable option for many women, with success rates between 60–80% for low-risk pregnancies.

Yet many families are never told it’s an option.

Barriers like hospital policies, limited provider support, and cost can make VBAC feel out of reach.

💛 I personally know how amazing a VBAC experience can be, as this was my birth story with my second baby. It was incredibly empowering, to the point that it actually changed the direction of my life and started me on the path to birth work, ultimately to my current position as the executive director of The Trillium Collaborative.

At Trillium House, we believe families deserve informed, evidence-based care and real choices for their births, including after a cesarean.

Through The Trillium Collaborative, donor support helps expand access to midwifery care that supports VBAC and reduces unnecessary repeat cesareans.

✨ If you’ve had a C-section, you still have options.
✨ If you want to make a difference, you can help make those options accessible.

Informed consent is a key part of respectful, ethical healthcare, but it doesn’t always happen the way it should.

In a clinical setting, informed consent means you are given clear, complete information about your options, including the risks, benefits, and alternatives so you can make the decision that’s right for you.

It also means having the time and space to ask questions and be part of the conversation.

During pregnancy and birth, decisions can happen quickly. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be informed or involved.

You deserve care that includes you.

At Trillium House, we believe informed, shared decision-making leads to better experiences and better outcomes for families.

This Earth Day, we’re thinking about how healthcare impacts the world around us.

In the US, the healthcare system produces more than 5 million tons of waste each year.

Midwifery-led, out-of-hospital birth offers a different approach that often uses fewer resources, fewer interventions, and a more intentional model of care.

At Trillium House, we believe caring for families and caring for the planet can go hand in hand.

Through the Trillium Collaborative, we’re working to make this model of care more accessible, supporting healthier families, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future.

🌎 Small choices can make a big impact.

We recognize that the path to growing a family is not the same for everyone.

For many, it includes waiting, loss, uncertainty, and questions that don’t always have easy answers.

If this is part of your story, you are not alone—and your experience matters.

Black Maternal Health Week is a time to listen, learn, and take action.

In the United States, Black women are 2–3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, regardless of income or education.

One contributing factor is implicit bias: unconscious attitudes or assumptions that can affect how care is provided and how concerns are heard.

These biases can lead to delayed care, missed warning signs, and unequal treatment.

Education is one way we can begin to change outcomes.

At Trillium House, our free workshops are open to everyone, no matter whether you plan to give birth at Trillium or in the hospital. We believe informed families are empowered families and that even just a little bit of knowledge can help you advocate for safer, more equitable care.

We also want to recognize and celebrate local resources like Birth in Color, who are doing vital work to support families and improve outcomes.

Navigating the Peaks and Valleys of Parenting: Understanding Behavior so you can Respond with Clarity and Confidence

Hosted by Jenni Adams, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, special educator, and mom of two, as well as the founder of Peaks of Joy Parenting Solutions, PLLC! With over a decade of experience in behavior analysis and education, she supports parents of nuerodivergent and nuerotypical children in understanding their child’s behavior and developing practical skills for real-life challenges. Her work is rooted in the belief that parents are the most powerful agents of change in a child’s life. By combining research-based strategies with a compassionate, individualized approach, she helps families build the confidence and consistency needed to create meaningful, lasting change.

If we’re honest, parenting comes with the most beautiful highs and some of the most challenging lows. In today’s interconnected world, sorting through all the advice about what to do can feel overwhelming.

In this free workshop, you’ll learn how to better understand your child’s behavior through an evidence-based and compassionate lens. We’ll explore why challenging behaviors happen, how small shifts in your response can create meaningful change, and practical strategies you can begin using right away.
This workshop is designed for moms who want to feel more confident, intentional, and supported in their parenting by relying on research-based strategies that actually work in real life!

On World Health Day, we’re reminded that maternal health is a global issue. But it’s also a local one.

Each year, more than 280,000 women worldwide die from pregnancy-related causes, many of them preventable.

Here in the United States, maternal health outcomes lag behind other developed countries and access to care is a growing part of the problem.

With the closure of the labor and delivery unit at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, families in our region now face fewer options, longer travel times, and increased barriers to care.

This is what reduced access looks like.

At Trillium House, we are working to bridge that gap by providing community-based, midwifery-led care that expands access and supports healthy outcomes.

🌍 Maternal health matters everywhere.
🏡 And it starts right here in our community.
