Are you ready for the holidays? We are entering an exciting and busy time of year. Traveling, dinner tables, socializing… whew! Navigating the holidays with a vestibular disorder can be challenging. Check out my tips below to get ready and help you feel your best this year.

🍁 Stay hydrated!! (This is a big one)
🍁 Keep a “Relief Kit” with you including ginger chews, peppermint oil, gum/mints, electrolytes, meds/supplements etc).
🍁Utilize breathing and grounding exercises to help regulate nervous system if you become overstimulated.
🍁Sit at the head of the table to limit head movements.
🍁Take breaks. Position yourself near an exit to get some fresh air if necessary.
🍁Maintain your normal routine as much as possible (supplements, meds, sleep schedule etc).
🍁 Know your triggers. And do your best to manage/avoid them.
🍁 Eat before you go if you aren’t sure there will be food you can have.
🍁 Go with a friend who knows your limits and will respect them.
🍁 Remember it’s ok to say “No”. Boundaries are healthy.
🍁 Know that your diagnosis does not define you and you deserve to enjoy the holidays too!!!

Migraines can present in many forms. They may or may not present with head pain, visual auras, motion sensitivity etc. Vestibular Migraine is a sub type of traditional migraine. It can be difficult to diagnose and not so obvious at times. If you suspect you are suffering from vestibular migraine, consider vestibular rehabilitation. In addition to traditional migraine treatment, vestibular rehab can help decrease and manage symptoms. Contact me to schedule a free phone consult and learn more!

Welcome friends and new followers! I’m excited to share with you more about The Dizzy PT 👏🏻

I am a native to Lynchburg, VA and received my doctorate in Physical Therapy at .of.lynchburg in 2013. Over the years, I have narrowed my focus in treating people with vestibular disorders. Not sure what that is? I’ll explain 😉

Vestibular dysfunction usually results in symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, brain fog etc. There are many causes of vertigo and part of my job is to evaluate your specific situation, determine if it is a vestibular issue, and provide a custom rehab program in effort to return to your “normal” self.

Vestibular therapy is usually exercise based but can also include manual therapy, positional maneuvers, and progressive movements to reduce symptoms.

What is different about The Dizzy PT?
⭐️ I am mobile! That means I come to you. I provide in home evaluations and treatment sessions. Who wants to leave your house when you are dizzy? 👎🏻

⭐️ I don’t accept insurance. This allows me to spend more time with each patient and provide the best care…not dictated by your insurance 🙃

⭐️ As a patient of The Dizzy PT, you have direct access to me. I stay in close communication with my patients and am easy to reach with questions/concerns. All of your time spent in therapy is with me…not tossed around from therapist to therapist.

⭐️ I’m certified in clinical vestibular rehabilitation. This was an additional certification post PT school. This is my specialty!

I truly enjoy what I do and love getting to help people. If you want to know more about vestibular rehab therapy (VRT) let me know! I offer free phone consultations and am happy to answer any questions.

Love The Dizzy Cook for all things Vestibular Migraine. She has some amazing recipes and this one looks especially good!! Go check it out!

One of my favorite recipes, this Vegetable Fried Rice is soy-free and migraine friendly. https://thedizzycook.com/vegetable-fried-rice/

Typically it's a way for me to use up whatever is leftover in the fridge. Sometimes I'll add chicken or rotisserie chicken if I have that. The Mongolian beef recipe is really good with this too.

Your vestibular system lets your body know where you are in space. If you have vestibular dysfunction, you may experience dizziness along with other symptoms. Vestibular dysfunction will prevent your body’s awareness of where it is in space and creates a disequilibrium. Anxiety and physiological stress can then become secondary issues from the disequilibrium. This anxiety can then increase your dizziness.

Do you see the cycle?

An important part of recovery from vestibular dysfunction is to find ways to decrease stress and anxiety. I often recommend breathing exercises and grounding techniques to reduce stress levels. In combination with skilled vestibular rehabilitation therapy, you can expect a faster recovery from your vestibular condition.
