Meet Dr. Mike Morykon, LPC, PhD
After retiring, Dr. Morykon felt called to continue serving, especially fellow veterans. With decades of counseling experience and a background in the Air Force and Army National Guard, he was a natural fit when The Lighthouse began expanding services for veterans facing PTSD, addiction, and major life transitions.
Now serving part-time at The Lighthouse, Dr. Morykon provides free, crisis-focused counseling to veterans who are navigating the difficult shift from military life to civilian life. His heart is to help veterans regain direction, purpose, and stability—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
His heartbeat is to finish well. Rooted in Jesus’ words that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. This is how Dr. Morykon lives and serves every day.
Dr. Morykon often describes life as a three-legged stool: physical, emotional, and spiritual. Without that spiritual foundation, life can feel unbalanced. His own faith journey began in basic training through a Gideon's New Testament, and that same deep spiritual connection is what drew him to The Lighthouse.
“The face-to-face, front-line work, that’s who I am,” he says. “There’s nothing more fulfilling than helping someone work through their struggles.”
We are grateful for Dr. Morykon’s service, compassion, and faithful presence for veterans in our community.
Fun fact: When he’s not counseling, he and his wife love spending time outdoors and camping
