Provider Spotlight: Dr. Patrick R. Kenny

Dr. Kenny’s journey into gastroenterology started close to home when his cousin was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease during his time in medical school. What began as a desire to better understand her experience grew into a lifelong passion for helping others feel their best.

When he’s not caring for patients, you can find him on the golf course, skiing, hiking, or cheering on his kids at their games. He’s also got a lesser-known talent: karaoke!

Fun fact: Dr. Kenny is a distant relative of Father Charles O’Donnell, the 11th president of the University of Notre Dame.

Women are more likely than men to face certain GI challenges like microscopic colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and several autoimmune liver diseases—due to a variety of reasons.

Occasional heartburn after a heavy meal is common — but frequent heartburn could be a sign of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Left untreated, GERD can damage the esophagus and increase the risk of more serious conditions.

If you’re experiencing heartburn two or more times a week, it's time to talk to your primary care physician; a gastroenterology consultation may even be required for further workup.

🥗 Tip: Your gut thrives on variety.

A diet rich in different fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fermented foods can help support a diverse gut microbiome — which plays a key role in digestion, immunity, and overall health.

Mix it up on your plate to give your gut the nutrients (and good bacteria) it needs to function at its best.

🌡️ Hot weather can impact more than your energy levels — it can affect your digestion, too.

High temps combined with dehydration, heavy meals, or outdoor activity can lead to:

🔹 Bloating
🔹 Constipation
🔹 Acid reflux

To stay on track:
✔️ Eat smaller, lighter meals
✔️ Sip water steadily throughout the day
✔️ Avoid lying down right after eating

If your digestive system seems off this summer, don’t ignore it. Our team is here to help you feel your best.

💧 Did you know water is one of the most underrated tools for digestive health?

Staying hydrated:
✔️ Supports regular bowel movements
✔️ Helps break down food for absorption
✔️ Keeps your gut lining healthy

As temperatures climb, so should your water intake — especially if you’re outside or active. Aiming for at least 8 cups a day is a good start, but your needs may vary based on your health or medications. If you’re unsure, your GI provider can help guide you.
