Today the American College of Nurse-Midwives honors Black Midwives Day, founded in 2023 by the National Black Midwives Alliance.

Black midwives play a vital role in improving maternal health outcomes, reducing disparities, and providing culturally congruent, community-centered care. Their leadership is essential to addressing the Black maternal health crisis and expanding access to care in maternity care deserts across the United States.

We thank the National Black Midwives Alliance for establishing this important day and for their leadership in advancing Black midwifery.

Hey there! I'm Emily -- mother of two and licensed mental health therapist. With a background in social work, my main focus is shifting from pathology to looking at the perinatal period through a cultural, anthropological, and systemic lens. I most enjoy holding space for my client's to reconnect to their intuition and inner knowing - something that our modern society does not always place value on but is extremely important in parenting from a place of authenticity. As a clinician certified in grief counseling, I also specialize in joining with clients who have experienced loss of any kind. Outside of my professional work, I spend most of my time caring for our young children, enjoying creative outlets, and pouring into projects around the house.

This workshop will provide a basis for what is typical or expected during this special time, and what may be a true perinatal mood disorder. Together we will explore why so many mothers are experiencing anxiety and discuss practical ways to prevent, address, and grow with it. Through personal reflection and intimate dialogue, we will dive into the means of connecting to our innate gift of Intuition as a natural antidote to perinatal anxiety.
