Dear Midwife Advocates,
After last Wednesdays reconvene of the general assembly, Governor Youngkin is now re-considering HB1923, a bipartisan bill that ensures equal reimbursement for all licensed midwives in Virginia—including Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), Licensed Midwives (LMs), and Licensed Certified Midwives (LCMs).

Midwives across the state provide safe, effective, and affordable care, yet only CNMs currently receive full reimbursement. This unequal insurance eligibility:

Limits access to care, especially in rural areas.
Strains our healthcare system with preventable complications and higher costs.
Restricts families’ freedom to choose the provider that fits them best.
We need your voice now to urge the Governor to sign this important legislation and its budget amendment. HB1923 was crafted with broad input—including from the Medical Society of Virginia, Virginia Midwives Alliance, and ACNM-VA—and has no fiscal impact on the state health plan. Please share this action alert broadly. Our communities are depending on us.

Hey EVERYBODY!
Please click this link and tell your legislators to support our budget amendment to get all midwives paid at 100% of the allowed Medicaid rate. Medicaid rates are already so low that many midwives can't afford to work off of the current 75% pay. This means Medicaid families, who arguably need midwives the most, can't find anyone who can serve them. Sign this and help us get quality care to ALL families.
