Sclerotherapy is one of our most popular services offered at Virginia Vein and Wellness Center in Lynchburg, VA! Since there was so much interest, we wanted to answer some FAQs that came up in the comment section!
💡 What is sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting a chemical solution into spider veins causing the vein walls to swell, stick together, and seal shut, stopping the flow of blood.
💡 Is sclerotherapy painful?
This treatment is not painful! You will feel a slight prick or stinging sensation when the needle is inserted.
💡 Do the spider veins go away immediately?
It takes about 3 to 6 weeks to see the full results of sclerotherapy.
💡Are there benefits aside from aesthetic improvement?
Yes! While some get sclerotherapy to decrease the appearance of spider veins, this treatment more importantly can help relieve uncomfortable symptoms like aching, burning, or throbbing of the legs.
💡 Can spider veins come back after sclerotherapy?
Spider veins treated with sclerotherapy usually don't come back, but new veins can appear. Factors that can cause veins to reappear are genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, lifestyle habits, and underlying vein conditions.
💡 How long do the results last?
The results of sclerotherapy are both permanent and temporary. These results can be permanent because veins that are treated will fade away, but if there is a underlying venous condition, new spider veins can develop overtime.
💡 Does your office check for venous insufficiency/other underlying causes of spider veins?
YES! During your initial consultation, an ultrasound will be performed to determine any venous reflux that may lead to the development of more spider veins. We will then discuss the findings and present different options that are available to you in order to give you the best results!
