In this scenario, RMT Instructor, Libby Feldhaus, has assigned a group of students to play the role of a 7 year old experiencing anaphylaxis in response to a bee sting.

The students acting did an awesome job challenging the responders on scene! Peds can be difficult to assess and having practice in these situations gives you a chance to gain confidence communicating and staying consistent with the necessary primary and secondary assessments.

It is a privilege to work with people who are so dedicated to our community, and our recent collaboration with Common Threads was a powerful reminder of that.

Common Threads does the incredible work of bringing gardening, nutrition, and environmental education to children right here in Bellingham. We were honored to provide their team of volunteers and educators with Basic First Aid and CPR/AED training.

After assessing the situation, we have determined that emergency evacuation support is not required. While the injury is not life-threatening, the pain levels are high, and continuing the trek is no longer an option. Our priority is to end the trip and get our friend to a dentist as soon as possible.

However, safety remains our number one rule. We will not rush into hazardous conditions just to get back faster. If the terrain is tricky or light is fading, we will camp here for the night, ensure our friend is as comfortable as possible, and begin our safe descent first thing tomorrow morning.
