Below is the link for those people interested in my 2-hours FL Laws and Rules class on Wed, Aug 28, 2024 from 4:30pm-6:30pm. We will discuss, to the best of my ability, the changes in the Establishment Rules that went into affect on July 1, 2024.

Use the link for $15 payment through PayPal (can use either PayPal account or credit card). In the link you will scroll down to bottom of page and need to provide an email address. I will send a ZOOM link to that email address prior to the meeting time for you to join us. Once the virtual meeting gets started I will ask everyone to enter their name and FL license number to give you credit for the hours. Want to receive 2-hours of FL Laws and Rules pertaining to Massage Therapy and use them towards license renewal in 2025?

Okay, so this is what I have done for those people unable to attend any of the recent FL Board of Massage Therapy workshops. I created a ZOOM Meeting on Aug 28th from 4:30-6:30pm.

At these workshops the Board explained the new changes to the Establishment License rules that went into effect on July 1, 2024. As we found out during the most recent meeting in PCB, somethings meant what they said, others did not. For some people it created more questions then provided answers.

You can join us live on ZOOM during that time (and ask questions) - OR - it will be recorded and you can view it later. During this virtual meeting I will attempt to provide coverage of those topics and answer questions to the best of my ability. The cost for the 2-hour course is $15. Information: for those people that read my post about the massage therapy teaching position at Tom P. Haney Technical College. If you were / are interested or just wanted to know more about it, I'll share this with you.

Due to an unfortunate event outside of their control, Haney has decided to postpone hiring another massage teacher and the position will not be available for a while. The reason is too lengthy to go into here but if you or someone you know were considering the position and want to know more then contact me in messenger or outside of FB and I'll share what's happening. Hey, I'm just throwing it out there to see who is interested. I was think that on Thurs, Aug 15th (or so) to hold a 2-hour virtual Zoom CEU class for FL Laws and Rules around 4-6 pm. That is the day after the Massage Board meeting on Aug 14th at PCB. In case anyone is not able to make the meeting, I will go over and discuss the changes as they have explained them to us.

It is a way for you to easily get 2 required CE credits for Laws & Rules towards renewal and also learn about how these new changes have affected FL LMTs as of July 1st. There will be a cost associated with it (to cover my time and expenses) but it will be minimal.

Let me know if interested or a better date / time. Also, if everyone could help spread this around to surrounding LMTs, counties and massage associations that would be a great help. Thanks to Suzanne Ganzak Carnill for the suggestion.

As most of you know, I have been teaching the Massage Therapy Program at Tom P. Haney Technical College for many years. Well starting with this 2024-25 school year we found it necessary to bring on a second instructor to assist with covering the required information for the students.

So, with that said, if you are a FL LMT, good at relaying structured information to others, have experience or an interest in teaching and enjoy a regular work schedule then please apply.

Haney will begin advertising for this teaching position sometime in July on the BDS website. Evaluations and interviews will follow for the class to start in September. If you have questions I'll answer them if possible (no info about salaries or benefits), otherwise I will refer you to Haney. Be Well and Happy Hunting. Lee Thompson

Okay here we go ..... FL rules changes for massage therapy that directly effect us as therapists and start on 7/1/24:
(sorry it's long but want to cover it all)
*- Anything that occurs within the establishment by anyone working there (regardless of there position) that is related to a criminal or sexual nature ..... that person AND the owner plus the D.E.M. will all be affected.
*- Advertising was changed to include the internet and various other means of transmission (not a surprise).
- Anyone that works within the establishment (including independent contractors or room lessees) are now considered "Employees" of that business and the owner is required to obtain and keep on file their name, address and other person info along with copy of their valid ID.
*- Changes were made to the definition of "Sexual Activity". The only thing of significance for that is as follows: intentionally touching the "femoral triangle", "buttocks", "mouth" or "tongue" along with a few other naughty places.
*- Also getting "written permission" to remove the draping which will expose the breast or genitalia.
*- A change to the visibility through a window from outside to inside of the reception area of the business. (i.e., no curtains, blinds, 100% reflective tinting, etc.)
*- All employees (remember that means EVERYONE) must be fully clothed at all times with nontransparent material (no fishnets or see through stuff).
*- As mentioned earlier - must maintain name, address, DOB, phone #, position and license (if applicable) of ALL "employees".
*- Maintain for 1 year the date, time & type of session, the LMT that provided session along with their license # ..... PLUS .... the full name, address, and phone #, a copy of valid form of ID from EACH client AND their session notes (i.e., medical documentation {SOAP notes}). So we are now officially REQUIRED to do SOAP notes on EVERY client.
*- Cannot "advertise" that you provide - prostitution, es**rt or sexual services ..... or post for services on a known "illicit website". (okay that's just stupid but whatever).
*- Cannot use the establishment as a permanent or temporary domicile or even "napping quarters", unless zoned residential. (Ah MAN! no more sleeping on the massage table).
*- They also seem to be making a big deal about the valid form of ID for each "employee", so better make sure everyone always has one handy..... or they can report your business to the federal Immigration Office.
