Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at North Shore Doula Co. 💐

To every mother and family we’ve had the privilege of supporting — thank you for allowing us to be part of such a transformative season in your lives. Witnessing the strength, love, vulnerability, and beauty that exists in pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood is something we never take for granted.

There is nothing more special than watching someone become a mother, and we are endlessly honored to walk alongside families during those first moments and beyond. Today we celebrate all mothers — the ones in the thick of newborn days, the ones still growing their babies, and the ones finding their footing in this new chapter. You are doing an incredible job. ❤️

Those first hours after your baby arrives?
They’re not just magical… they’re intense, raw, and very real.

Your baby is finally here, and at the same time—your body, your hormones, and your heart are doing a LOT.

Here’s what often surprises people:

✨ Fundal massages that are… not exactly gentle
✨ Skin-to-skin time that feels instinctive and emotional
✨ Feeding your baby a lot (even when you’re exhausted)
✨ A super sleepy newborn who may need encouragement to eat
✨ Postpartum soreness in places you didn’t expect
✨ Getting up to walk for the first time (yes, it can feel wobbly)
✨ Pads, bleeding, and learning your new normal
✨ Nurses coming in frequently to check on you and baby

It’s a mix of awe, discomfort, pride, and vulnerability—all wrapped into one.

And here’s the part I want you to remember:
🤍 You don’t have to feel “put together”
🤍 You don’t have to know what you’re doing right away
🤍 You are allowed to take it one moment at a time

Support matters here. Gentle guidance matters.
Because those first 24 hours aren’t just about meeting your baby—
they’re about becoming you in this new role.

If you’re preparing for birth, this is the kind of real-life support we talk through together 💛

Early labor isn’t what the movies show 🤍

It’s not usually dramatic, intense, or even that clear at first.

It often looks like:

• Mild, irregular contractions that come and go
• Period-like cramping or low back ache
• Losing your mucus plug (or not!)
• An increase in bowel movements
• Suddenly feeling like you can breathe a little easier (baby may be settling lower into the pelvis)
• Going about your normal day while wondering “is this it?”

These can be signs your body is getting ready—but not necessarily that labor is happening yet.

Early labor can last hours… or even a couple of days. And that’s normal.

✨ So when should you reach out to your doula?
When you’re questioning the feelings and sensations in your body.

Text or call when:

• You think labor might be starting
• You’re unsure what you’re feeling
• You need reassurance or a game plan
• You can’t sleep because you’re too aware of contractions
• Things feel like they’re picking up (even if you’re not sure)

And when you think you’re in labor—call your doula.

Anything time-sensitive should always be a call 📞

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

One of the biggest ways we support you is helping you stay home longer—where you’re most comfortable, relaxed, and in control.

And sometimes, that starts with a simple:
“Hey… I think something is happening?”

We’ve got you 🤍

Save this for later + send it to your birth partner so they know too.

Induction isn’t just a single decision, it’s a series of them. And the more you understand going in, the more steady and supported you can feel moving through it.

You don’t need to have all the answers. But you deserve the space to ask the questions.

This is where support matters.

Someone to help you slow things down, talk through your options, and stay connected to what feels right for you as things shift.

As doulas, we regularly support clients through induction; grounding, informing, and helping them stay connected to their voice through each step.

There’s this moment a lot of clients have…
where they type out a message, pause, and think—
“Maybe I shouldn’t send this.”

Maybe it feels too small.
Maybe it feels like you’ve already asked enough.
Maybe you don’t want to be “that client.”

But here’s the truth:
You’re not bothering us.

Support doesn’t only happen in the big moments.
It’s in the questions, the check-ins, the “is this normal?” texts.
It’s in the in-between.

We would always rather you reach out than sit in uncertainty, Googling at 2am, or wondering if you’re doing something wrong.

You’re not too much.
You’re navigating something new—and you don’t have to do that alone. 🤍

You don’t need to have everything figured out before baby arrives…
but having the right support saved in your phone? That changes everything.

These are the 4 contacts I make sure every client has ready 👇
• Postpartum doula
• IBCLC
• Maternal mental health provider
• Pediatric provider

Because when you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or unsure…
you shouldn’t have to go searching for help.

If you don’t already have a maternal mental health provider, you can also reach out to Postpartum Support International for free, confidential support:
📞 Call or text: 1-800-944-4773 (US)

As doulas, we’re invited into some of the most powerful moments of becoming.

But there are also journeys we don’t always see—
the waiting, the uncertainty, the quiet strength it takes to keep going.

Infertility is one of the most unseen parts of the path to parenthood… and one of the most deeply felt.

There is no one right way forward.

No single version of what this journey “should” look like.

This week, during National Infertility Awareness Week, we’re holding space for every story—spoken and unspoken.

If this is part of your experience, you are not alone. 🤍
