Long holidays can sometimes mean short fuses. Let's identify some ways to minimize power struggles:

**Stay Calm**: Keep your emotions in check. Responding to defiance with anger can escalate the situation. Remember, your job is to be the thermostat and help co-regulate, not be the thermometer and react.

**Pick Your Battles**: Not every issue is worth fighting over. Focus on what truly matters and let the small things slide when possible. Ask yourself, "Is this a "me" problem or an actual problem?"

**Offer Choices**: Give your child a sense of control by presenting options. For example, “Would you like to wear the red shirt or the blue shirt?” This helps minimize resistance.

**Set Clear Boundaries**: Make sure your child understands the rules and the consequences of their actions ahead of time. Have a sidewalk conversation before heading into the store/party/even.

**Validate Their Feelings**: Acknowledge your child's emotions by saying things like, “I understand you’re upset.” This helps them feel heard and can lessen their resistance before jumping into problem-solving.

**Pick Your Battles**: Not every issue is worth fighting over. Focus on what truly matters and let the small things slide when possible. Ask yourself, "Is this a 'me' problem or an actual problem?"change.

**Be Flexible**: Sometimes, being willing to negotiate or change plans can reduce power struggles. Show that you’re not rigid and can compromise when appropriate.

**Model Problem-Solving**: Demonstrate how to work through disagreements calmly and constructively. This teaches your child valuable life skills for managing conflicts.

By using these strategies, parents can create a more cooperative environment and reduce power struggles with their children.

A fidget toy or another tactile object can significantly enhance focus and relieve stress. These small, handheld devices allow you to channel nervous energy through subtle movements, making it easier to concentrate on tasks at hand. Help your child understand that using a fidget in school is a tool by:
- **Explain the Purpose**: Start by explaining what fidget toys are designed for, and emphasize the benefits of using fidget toys, such as improved focus, reduced anxiety, and enhanced learning capabilities.

- **Demonstrate Usage**: Show your child how to use fidget toys in a way that promotes concentration. For example, demonstrate using a fidget spinner during reading time or studying.

- **Incorporate into Activities**: Use fidget toys during specific activities, like homework or group projects, to illustrate their role as tools that can aid in productivity.

- **Set Clear Guidelines**: Establish rules about when and where fidget toys can be used. This reinforces their purpose as tools to support learning rather than distractions.

- **Encourage Self-Regulation**: Teach kids to recognize when they need a break or focus aid, allowing them to use fidget toys responsibly.

- **Create a Positive Environment**: Foster an environment where using fidget toys is normalized and encouraged within appropriate contexts, such as classrooms or study times.

- **Encourage Creativity**: Allow kids to explore different fidget tools to find what works best for them, encouraging them to view these tools as personalized aids for focus.

- **Use Visual Reminders**: Create posters or charts that highlight the benefits and proper use of fidget toys as tools, making the concept clear and accessible.
