FYI

Due to decreased fire danger throughout the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, all fire restrictions have been lifted as of September 18, 2025.

Fire restrictions can partially mitigate wildfire risk but remember only YOU can prevent wildfires!

🪣 Have water and a shovel ready prior to making a fire.

💧Always, drown, stir, and feel a campfire to ensure that it is completely put out. Fires can reignite if they are not completely cold to the touch.

👀 Never leave a campfire unattended.

Very sad news

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two deaths that occurred in Pinewood Springs.

Just after 4:30 p.m. on September 9, 2025, LCSO deputies responded to a report of two deceased adults. The caller went to visit residents at a home on Deer Lane and found them dead inside. Crime scene investigators processed the scene and recovered several fi****ms. No other people were in the home.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined that both people died from gunshot injuries. They ruled that the 65-year-old woman’s manner of death was homicide. The 64-year-old man’s manner of death was su***de. The Coroner’s Office will release their names at a later time.

Investigators are working to gain a clearer understanding of the events leading up to this incident. However, based on the facts gathered during the preliminary investigation, there is no indication of any threat to the community. Anyone with information, who has not already spoken to law enforcement, should call LCSO Investigator Marcus Simelane at 970-498-5515.

“This kind of sudden and tragic loss of life leaves a lasting impact on families, friends, and the surrounding community,” said Investigations Captain Bobby Moll. “As our investigators work to find out what happened, our Victim Response Team and Chaplains will continue offering support to those directly affected.”

We are seeing a lot of false crash detections and emergency notifications from iPhones.
Today we learned If you drop your phone out of a moving car, it thinks it’s been in an accident and calls 911 if you don’t stop it within 10 seconds
Below is a video describing how it works

Additional Fire Restrictions on the Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests

Fort Collins, Colo. (August 12, 2025) – Due to current conditions, the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests have enacted Stage 1 fire restrictions across National Forest lands in Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson and Larimer counties beginning today, Tuesday, August 12, 2025. This decision was made in collaboration with sheriff offices, local fire districts and other federal land managers. Stage 1 fire restrictions limit activities with a high potential of starting wildfires, including campfires. The purpose of these restrictions is to protect public health, safety, and natural resources by preventing wildfires. The western portion of the forest in Grand County was already under Stage 1 restrictions.

During Stage 1 fire restrictions, open fires are only permitted within Forest Service installed and maintained fire rings and picnic grills within highly developed recreation areas and campgrounds that are maintained by a host. In areas where campfires are permitted, visitors should remember to follow proper fire maintenance guidelines by never leaving a campfire unattended and fully extinguishing the campfire with large amounts of water until all of the coals are out cold. In other areas of the National Forests, visitors may use stoves and heating devices solely fueled by liquid or gas and featuring an on/off switch. Whether starting a campfire in a developed site, or using an approved heating device, visitors should never leave a fire unattended.

Violation of Stage 1 fire restrictions can result in a maximum fine of $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.

Be sure to visit the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland’s Alerts page to read the fire restrictions orders and find other useful information to help plan your trip.
Allowed Activities Under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Open fires contained in permanently constructed fire pits or fire grates that the Forest Service has installed and maintained at its developed campgrounds and picnic areas. Please see the Developed Recreation Sites list that indicates where fires are permitted.

Liquid or gas fueled stoves, lanterns, or heating devices with on/off switches on surfaces cleared of all flammable materials within three feet of the device.

A fully enclosed metal stove with a chimney at least five feet in length and a mesh screen spark arrestor with a screen opening of a ¼ inch or less used in an area that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials within 10 feet of the device.

Per Sheriff Feyen: The Larimer Board of County Commissioners just approved fire restrictions. In summary, fires in pre-constructed and permanently affixed metal or masonry fire pits are permissible. The same is true for gas or liquid-fueled fires. Nothing else is permitted. The restrictions go into effect at 1300 and expire at 2359 on Tuesday, September 2nd, unless revoked by the BoCC before that time. Additionally, for now, the restrictions only apply to areas of unincorporated Larimer County at 6'000 feet and higher.

On recommendation by the Larimer County Sheriff, the Board of Larimer County Commissioners today voted 3-0 to adopt fire restrictions in unincorporated Larimer
