The 79th annual Fiesta Day returns to E 7th Avenue in Historic Ybor City this Saturday, February 21, from 11 am to 6 pm. Black History Month - Tampa’s Black History:
In 1898, Black U.S. Army regiments known as Buffalo Soldiers camped in Tampa, specifically in the Tampa Heights area, while preparing to deploy to Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Despite facing severe racial discrimination and violence from local white residents and troops, they served with distinction, earning five Medals of Honor.
