Opening night at TIFF. We saw Saipan which is an Irish movie about the stand off between the captain of Ireland's national soccer team, Rory Keane (played by Eanna Hardwicke) and the manager Mick McCarthy (played by Steve Coogan) leading up to the World Cup finals in 2002. This was not a story I was familiar with nor am I a big soccer fan but really enjoyed the movie. A comedy and a drama. I guess you would call it a dramedy. 2 thumbs up from Douglas Grittani and me! Highly recommend going to see it when it hits theatres or go get yourself a ticket to TIFF as it's playing again tomorrow! Also bonus, we bumped into Eanna, the lead, on our way out of the theatre and he graciously agreed to a selfie!

Just got this last night from the BMSC. I unfortunately missed our end of year party but am touched they thought of me. The hips look a little like the ones installed in me...lol. Looking forward to another great season with the BMSC and to strengthening those bionic hips 🤣🏊‍♀️

This is an urgent appeal to help a cherished member of our local Suzuki community, Pierre Gagnon, a violin teacher who has been teaching for the Oakville Suzuki Association for more than 40 years.

Pierre, 72, is currently in the hospital undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for stage 4 prostate cancer. Doctors have recently discovered a fracture in his hip that prevents him from walking. Alone and in pain, he’s eager to return home to be with his wife, Susan, as he battles the disease and to continue teaching his students for as long as he can.

But Pierre’s been told that he cannot be discharged until they get a wheelchair stairlift. The equipment, expected to cost approximately $18,000 is not covered by government funding.

Susan — herself a member of Oakville’s Suzuki family since the 1980s — is desperately trying to raise money for a stairlift so that Pierre can return home as soon as possible and live in peace and dignity.

We wanted to let you know about their challenge, and to ask you to consider donating what you can to help them offset part of the cost of the stairlift. Please do not feel obligated to contribute but If you feel moved to do so, any amount you can offer would be welcome and very much appreciated.

Got on my bike for the first time since my last race August 2023. 2 hip replacements later and time to heal, it feels good to be back on the bike. Just realizing as I take this picture that the race stickers are still on my helmet and on my bike lol. Took it for a little spin to make sure I still know how to use the clips and that the bike is in working order. Just had to wipe off the cobwebs and pump up the tires and it seems in good shape, though I should take it for a tuneup. Hoping to do a longer ride tomorrow with my neighbor.

After a month of traveling and our final 5 days spent in Dublin, we are on our way home. Don't you think it's time to plan the next trip 😉

What did we get up to in Dublin?

- Guinness at the Brazen Head. They also had a delicious veggie stew!
- Wandering and shopping downtown Dublin.
- Walking the grounds of Trinity College.
- Checking out the Guinness Storehouse museum and having our complimentary pint at the top.
- Walking the cliffs of Howth and having fish and chips at the pier.
- A masterclass in making Irish coffee. We might have bought some Powers whiskey to make it at home.
- A private U2 walking tour, sadly Bono didn't join us.
- Tour of Windmill Lane Recording Studios where many of the U2 albums were recorded. Also many others like Kate Bush, Bowie, Rolling Stones and the Foo Fighters just to name a few.
- Tour of the Little Dublin Museum. Wonderful tour guide Emma who put on quite a show and ended with a song.
- Finished with a rousing evening in a bar listening to some great Irish music.

Goodbye Venice and on to Dublin. Venice was wonderful. It did get crowded in Piazza San Marco so we did our best to avoid the area at peak times. What did we get up to?
- arrived on my birthday so booked restaurant and the staff sang happy birthday to me putting a candle in my tiramisu
- Doge palace and museums. Highlight for me was seeing the prison
- Opera concert in the square
- visit to Murano and a glass blowing factory
- visiting the Lido and a swim in the Adriatic sea
- a gondola ride of course. We timed it perfectly picking a gondola away from the crowds and had a quiet boat ride
- finished with a fast private water taxi to the airport. Expensive but worth the hassle of not having to lug our bags through the square.
