Counseling may not be for everyone, and it is definitely not intended to be something an individual relies on.
However, did you know that 75% of those who received psychotherapy saw an improvement to their emotional and psychological wellbeing? When we can better understand ourselves in the context of our unique experiences, we know how to make meaning of our stories. And if we can make meaning (make sense) of our stories, we can make decisions freely for our future because we have more information.
We are complex beings with a psychological, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical parts. When one part is effected, it often leads to everything being off-balance. Meaning, we cannot just blame our problems and pain on one particular thing, and definitely cannot heal by fixating on one part. For example, a common misconception for Christians is that everything is spiritual and ties back to our faith. What this does is causes shame and confusion. Place this principle into your particular story. Have you been over-reductionistic and simplified something that needs more information to make sense? What if it all can be assessed in a wholistic way?
I have worked with those who are in daily crisis, those who are in a seasonal trial, and those who have had long-term effects of trauma. I have personally seen transformation. What an honor!
