Did you know that Thyroid function is directly related to fertility, pregnancy, and maternal/fetal health? It is currently estimated that 1 in 8 women will have a thyroid disorder in her lifetime. Our guest speaker Maria Gahry, DNP, RN, FNP-BC will highlight how to thoroughly evaluate thyroid function with complete lab testing that looks beyond simply the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) values. She will highlight the importance of optimized thyroid function for fertility as well as how to improve thyroid function during pregnancy to ensure optimal developmental outcomes. Maria will also discuss techniques that can improve fertility and hormonal health during the pre-conception phase.

Maria is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), with board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and graduate certificate in Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Maria earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009 from Wayne State University. She graduated from Wayne State University's DNP program in December 2015, joining Bio Energy Medical Center (BEMC) in Ann Arbor, MI in the spring of 2016. Her doctoral research focused on the screening and treatment of thyroid disease. At BEMC Maria’s practice has expanded to include treatment of other conditions including chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia, hormonal imbalances, infertility, chronic Lyme disease, multi-system immune dysfunction syndrome (MSIDS), autoimmune disease, heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, autism, ADHD, food and environmental allergies, and heavy metal/chemical toxicity.

Jenny Zaner, LM, CPM is the host of Metro Detroit Circle Circle and the owner of It's Your Birth Midwifery Services, LLC. Metro Detroit Birth circle meets the 2nd Thursday of the month from 7:30PM - 9:30PM at Bence Chiropractic in Macomb, MI. This is a free community support circle that features local volunteer speakers that are relevant to the childbearing year.
